Chapter Eight: Friends

It was the first night in weeks that Harper slept well, Spencer's voice replaying in her mind.

We can keep it professional, but it doesn't mean we can't enjoy spending time together.

It was exactly what she had needed to hear. It was a professional relationship that she happened to enjoy.

She knew it was a fine line that they were toeing, but she felt better this morning than she had since meeting him.

She smiled, remembering Trivia Night. It had been a while since Harper had been out and released her competitive spirit. She opened her phone to check the time - it was a Saturday morning, so she had slept in. There was one unread message from Garcia.

When is my interview?!!! This is sexist!

She smiled. She had actually considered interviewing Garcia next; she was an interesting angle for the article. Harper felt her contributions to the team were severely underrated. It meant she would have to return to the BAU, but this made her less anxious now that Spencer and her had clarified. She responded,

Monday morning? First thing.

I'm excited!! I'll wear my best dress!! <3

I'm not filming you!

Not the point. I need the article to introduce me as the gorgeous quirky strange lady with kitten earrings.

Harper laughed at her phone; Garcia was one of the most interesting people she had ever met. She couldn't decide if her or Spencer were stranger. Speaking of Spencer, before she could reply her phone started to buzz. She answered quickly, hearing his familiar voice on speaker,

"Hey."

Spencer retraces his apartment. It's 8am on a Saturday – his day off – and he's pacing the room, staring at the brown leather notebook on his kitchen table.

Such a small article that is causing him so much distress.

He only realised this morning, when he was searching for a book in his satchel that he had accidentally picked Harper's notebook up last night. It must have been under his book on the table, and he'd grabbed both.

He wants to call her, but he's anxious that she will think he took the notebook as an excuse to see her - or something of that nature. He did want to see her, but he hadn't planned to reach out this soon.

He hesitates, but he knows how important her notebook is to her, he has never seen her without it.

Not once does Spencer even think to open it, despite knowing that everything he has ever said to her was inside, alongside Harper's own commentary.
