Hi Vanessa,
Yes, I understand that I already took my personal leave last month and that you want the article by tomorrow.
If I could please reiterate that I took that personal leave because I was involved in a shooting, and the reason I didn't send you a draft yesterday is because I was kidnapped during a federal investigation, and then witnessed a bombing. Can you please be understanding of the situation?
Regards,
Harper.
She clenched her jaw as her fingers slapped the keyboard, what she really wanted to type was a big fuck you, but as always she regained her composure. Spencer looked over with an eyebrow raised,
"What happened?"
Harper sighs, rubbing her eyes. The maroon blanket wrapped around her shoulders fell down slightly onto Spencer's leather couch.
"It's Vanessa again."
Spencer put his book down on the side of the couch, turning to look at her and gently tug the laptop out of her grip, placing it on the floor.
"She wouldn't extend the deadline?"
"No, and she said I should 'stop making excuses'. Is kidnapping a regular reason to get out of work or something?"
He half-heartedly chuckles, watching her frown. "Have you ever considered freelance?"
Harper turns to face him, eyebrows still furrowed.
"Hmm. I worked really hard to get here. I don't know if people would read my work just based on my name."
Spencer adjusted his position on the couch again, his fingers lightly brushing her knee as he spoke. "That's not true. Your name carries weight. You're Harper Hazel - recipient of the National Press Club Award for Excellence in Journalism, finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing, and winner of the Investigative Reporters and Editors Medal."
