Chapter Nine: Procuring and Pandering
Harper watched as Garcia navigated through a sea of files and photos, a barely detectable crease in her brow. The cheery exterior was still there, but now Harper could see it for what it was — a protective layer.
"I keep it bright in here because... well, sometimes it's dark out there," Garcia said, gesturing toward her screen.
Harper nodded, tapping against her notebook. "It's inspiring."
Garcia smiled; she was blushing. It was a rare reaction, Harper noted.
"So my love, what do you need to know for your article? I'll say whatever you need!"
Harper smiled softly, "You don't need to say anything. I'm only interested in representing you correctly. I don't think the team could function without you."
"Tell me something I don't know honey."
They both laughed. "Okay, well what if we start with your connection to the team?" Harper asked, "You could explain each of them in your own words, it can help me understand how everyone functions."
Garcia grinned, folding her hands dramatically. "Oh, my people! You ready for this? Because the BAU isn't just a team—it's my very own superhero squad."
Harper laughed gently, sitting back in her chair.
"Hotch—he's our fearless leader. Tall, dark, and brooding in a very charming way. Some might say he's like a brick wall, but I'd say he's a teddy bear wrapped in Kevlar. Beneath the whole frown, he cares so deeply, it's inspiring. We all lean on him, whether he likes it or not."
Harper smiled encouragingly as she jotted down some notes, "And Morgan?"
"Oh, my Chocolate Thunder! Morgan's my bestie, my partner in crime. He's strong, brave, and has a heart the size of Texas. He always makes me feel safe, even when the world is terrifying. We have this cosmic bond, like... peanut butter and jelly or salt and pepper. Can't have one without the other."
She laughed, repeating, "Peanut butter and jelly. I love your descriptors."
Garcia joined her laughter and continued to list off the members of the team.
"Ah, our sweet, sweet JJ. She's like the calm in the storm. She's got this beautiful, serene strength, you know? She'll face down the worst humanity has to offer and still smile at you after. Total wonder woman. Plus, she's a fellow 'tell-it-like-it-is' kind of gal, and I adore her for it."
"Rossi is... well, he's our wise sage. He's been around, seen things, and always seems to have a story—usually over a glass of fine wine. He's like a rich, Italian uncle who's both charming and ever-so-slightly intimidating. But he'll surprise you with how much he truly cares."
