Year One:

"Tom Riddle!" A young boy, handsome for his age, takes his place on the stool under the sorting hat.

"SLYTHERIN!" The hat calls. He walks over to the Slytherin table and silently takes his seat.

"Azure Starr!" A small girl steps up to the sorting hat. She closes her eyes as it is placed on her head.

"RAVENCLAW!" The hat calls out. She smiles and skips happily over to the Ravenclaw table. As she sits, she feels someone's eyes staring at her from across the room. She meets the gaze of the newest addition to the Slytherin house, Tom Riddle. Confused, she offers him a smile. He blinks, then sneers, turning away.

Azure had no idea what she'd done to offend the handsome boy but didn't let it bother her. She happily went back to eating and getting to know her new classmates.

"Why is your hair like that?" a cold voice asks. Azure looks up and meets Tom Riddle's cold gaze. She stares in confusion for a moment, before realizing what he is talking about. "Oh! Just a prank, I suppose. Some Slytherin 5th years, I think. They looked older than me."

Tom was confused as to why she merely shrugged what had happened off. They had turned her hair purple! Why didn't she try to teach them a lesson? His father had taught him that if you don't get revenge, they'll just keep doing what they're doing to you. Of course, his father's idea of revenge was Crucio or Avada Kadavara.

When he voiced his question, however, he was surprised by the response he received. "Well, it's not that big of a deal, first of all, because they're just jerks. And second, I kind of like it. Besides, it'll be gone in a few days," she says with a shrug.

Tom was baffled that someone would be so unconcerned with the fact that they were pranked. He growled and stalked off, heading towards his common room.

When he got there, he saw that there was a group of boys, fifth years, who were laughing about turning some Ravenclaw's hair purple. Tom stalked over to them. The boys fell silent when they saw him coming, fear evident in their eyes.

"Leave Azure alone. She's my friend, and I don't like people messing with my friends," Tom growls. The boys frantically nod and make their way out of the common room as fast as they can.

Azure found him later that week. "You threatened the fifth years?" She asked. Her hair, as she'd predicted, had gone back to its natural black color, which made the bright blue of her eyes stand out even more. Tom merely shrugged. "They were picking on my friend. I stand up for my friends."

Azure stopped, surprised. The boy in front of her merely studied her closely, observing her as if she were an animal in their care of magical creatures class. She hesitated, then wrapped her arms around the boy. "Thank you, Tom." She runs off, leaving Tom staring after her, red staining the boy's cheeks. He wondered, briefly, what the feeling in his stomach was.

Year Two:

"Oh, come on, Tommy. It's not that dangerous." Tom, now twelve, raises a brow at the black-haired girl who'd spoken. "You're suggesting finding and opening the Chamber of Secrets. What do you mean, 'It's not that dangerous'?" Azure grins. "It's your family legacy." Tom shakes his head. "And you're a muggle. You'd be petrified at best. Killed at worst. It's too dangerous."
