PAST CONTINUES

A month later,

Paro made her way through the school corridor, looking for Jay. When she finally spotted him with his friends, they were all laughing and teasing him about something.

" Jay!" She called out his name, and all of them turned her way, hooting and grinning. Her face warmed, and she looked away, biting back a smile.

As her eyes swept the group, she noticed Rick watching her, his gaze steady. Her smile faltered a bit as memories came rushing back. Rick's older brother, Rohan, had proposed to her last year. Paro's stomach twisted at the thought.

She remembered how uncomfortable she'd felt back then. Rohan was much older than her, but he had been so persistent, refusing to accept her polite rejections. But she knew what he was really like. Rohan was infamous for his gambling, drinking, and Casanova image.

When he didn't take "no" for an answer, she'd had to stand her ground. She even had to get her family involved, and finally, Rohan backed off.

Now, seeing Rick's gaze made her stomach flip with worry. Had he told Jay about any of it? Her mind spun with nervous thoughts.

"Paro!" Jay's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. She blinked, realizing he was in front of her now, his hand reaching for hers. "You okay?"

She shook off her worries, smiling as best as she could. "Yeah, yeah... I was just thinking."

They walked down the hall together, and Jay suddenly whispered, " Let's go somewhere quieter."

With the words, Jay took her to an empty classroom and closed the door behind them, smiling. He leaned against a desk, giving her that warm, gentle look that always made her heart skip. "So... everything okay?"

"Yeah, all good." She felt silly mentioning her worries, so she just smiled instead.

Jay took her hand, his thumb running over her knuckles. "You know I'm here for you, right?"

Paro nodded, feeling the warmth spread through her chest. But as he leaned in a little closer, Paro felt uneasy and instinctively took a small step back. "Jay, I... we just need to take things slow, okay?"

For a second, Jay froze and Paro couldn't read his face. But soon his expression softened, and he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Of course, Paro. Whatever you're comfortable with. I just want you to be happy."

Paro's heart felt like it was going to burst. She never imagined feeling this way. "Thank you," she whispered, barely able to meet his gaze. She realized then just how lucky she was to have someone like him.

That night, as Paro lay in bed, her phone buzzed with a message from Jay. She opened it and felt her heart leap as she read his words.

" My love, I just wanted you to know... you make me the happiest guy in the world. I still can't believe you're mine. Sweet dreams, Paro. Can't wait to see you tomorrow."

Paro pressed her phone to her chest, her face breaking into a wide smile. She felt so light, so happy. Her life was finally coming together, and everything felt perfect.

She stepped out onto the balcony, breathing in the cold night air. The gentle breeze brushed her face, and she felt so grateful for everything-her supportive family, Preeti's friendship, and now, Jay's love!

For the first time, Paro felt her life was even better than any dream, not realizing that soon it would be turned into a living nightmare.
