EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER
I HEAR YELLING COMING from upstairs. My daughter is fighting with her older brother yet again. My ears hear steps running down the stairs and i already know it's about to be loud.
- Mum! Leah won't give me my hoodie back. - My son angers as he approaches me in the living room.
- Leah give it back. - I say not lifting my gaze from a magazine i was currently reading.
I heard a groan coming from my daughter who just joined us in the room. Leah was nearly a copy of me whilst Charlie looked like Jobe one to one. I loved them both equally but their arguments has been so often these days.
- Why do i always have to be the bad one?! How about you tell mum about the time you snuck out? - Leah argues back as she stands in front of her brother.
- Enough! - My husband joins in as he walks out of the kitchen.
I glare at him with a slight smirk, knowing that they will have to stop fighting now no matter what. Jobe always had the last word, and that's why he was the one to break off their rather stupid arguments.
- Can we spend this one weekend with no fights! - He continues as walking towards the two. - Charlie you're old enough to let go off things, Leah it's time to grow up.
I try to hide the shock on my face as he tells the siblings what i've been afraid to let out of my mouth. They stare at their father with poker faces as if he told them to pack their things and move out right there and then.
- I'm seeing Rico tonight, Mia will be there. Can Leah also come? - Charlie changed the subject surprising us all, including his little sister which had her arms crossed on her chest.
- Yeah sure. Just don't come back late okay? - I agree, looking up from the piece of paper.
Jobe walks over to the couch and sits down besides me. We watch as the two of our children walk away, nudging each other as if we didn't just tell them to stop fighting. I laugh quietly and scoot over to my husband, laying my head on his chest.
- I can't believe it Isa. Are we that horrible and raised them like this or is it just the teenager stage Levi warned me about? - Jobe questioned as wrapping his arm around me.
- I think it's the second option. Look at the positives, Charlie is almost eighteen which means it's nearly over for us with him. - I reassure and place a kiss on his cheek.
- Leah on the other hand. - He raises his eyebrows and exhales. - She's a demon.
I can't help but laugh at his words. Leah was always the more problematic one. The more aggressive one. Whilst Charlie was more calm and nonchalant. Two very different kids from not so different parents.
- She'll grow out of it. Eventually. - I reply and look up at Jobe. - We are so lucky to have them either way.
He nods his head and makes eye contact, then leans down and places a kiss on my lips, hugging me closer to him. I felt loved and fulfilled. Two nearly grown kids, a husband and a beautiful house in London.
This was it. My happy ending.
