Chapter Twenty-Four
Night Cast
His grip on my hand tightened as he shoved me around the corner and pinned me against the wall. I tried to control my breathing as it escalated.
"Where is the ring?"
I led him into my chambers and opened the dark wooden box containing the ring that bound me to this man. He took it and placed it on my finger.
"This is where it belongs. Now you have some explaining to do, young lady."
I broke out into a sweat. What was I to tell him? There was nothing to say. I had never brought him up with Brikwood. The fewer people he knew of to corrupt the better.
"You have nothing to say?"
He asked.
"You will have to make it up to me another way then,"
I swallowed and nodded. Off came his shirt. Then his blouse. As he undressed, he described the success of his last battle.
He had been gone longer than expected. The neighboring kingdom had not been willing to surrender. I bet they regret it now. Not that I could ask them.
He dropped his pants and moved his hands over my back. My dress peeled off me, and I sat on the bed obediently.
This was always the worst part. The waiting. Waiting for it to begin. He crawled on top of me, and I winced as he entered me.
SteelHeart was merciless in the bedroom just as he was in battle. He fucked until you hurt, and hurt bad. Over time, however, I had learned to block the feelings out. To go through the motions without the feelings.
He left me naked in bed once he had his share of me. Tears never came anymore. I had shed the last one ages ago.
One thought plagued my mind, though. Brikwood. What would he do to Brikwood?
