Chapter Thirty Nine
Evergreen
I lay on my back, hugging the blankets of the bed tightly to my body. Sleep has not come to me yet tonight. Only fear gripped me now. In the morning, my army, my friends, and I would dive head first into the deadliest battle of our lives.
I shivered at the mere thought of someone I love, not making it out alive. Someone I love. A smile creeps up my lips as I imagine him.
I thought he had been evicted from my heart forever the day he betrayed me. Yet here he was, his presence stronger than ever. I wonder if he was thinking of me tonight. Would he dream of me? Was he lying awake, consumed with thoughts of me?
Brikwood. There were so many things I'd love to say to him. I would tell him I loved him. I would ask if he loved me...Did he love me?
I blink, and there he is at my side, as if he heard my thoughts and was ready to answer my question. Without a word, he begins kissing me. I kiss him back. No words are necessary.
He can tell how much I want him through the passion of my kisses. He cradles me gently, and I feel his hands move down my back. I feel his hands begin to slowly unlace the back of my dress. I lift my own hands and untie his leather shirt. I pull it off gently. My dress falls off of me onto the bed. I pull off his brown leather pants and toss them to the floor. He cups my face in his palms, staring into my eyes.
"Evergreen..."
The loving way he says my name makes me melt into him without hesitation.
"Brikwood..."
I back up on the bed towards the pillows as he climbs on top of me. He's so perfect. From the look in his eyes to the way he fits me. His breath on my neck feels like safety and worn leather. I inhale deeply, trying to suck up as much of him as possible.
He releases me, and I pin him down. He tastes like home. I'm in love with you, Brikwood. I can no longer deny it.
The moon darkens as we lie, entangled in each other's arms, no longer divided. By the time the sun breaks the horizon, we are both asleep.
