While saying this, his gaze never left the little merman. From his angle, he could clearly see the mottled scars on the merman's smooth back.

Lin Anqu sneered. "No wonder he's so weak yet still grew up so big. He must have been pampered, or maybe not by a human, but by some disgusting and grotesque creature."

"As long as someone offers him protection, this merman will probably shamelessly cling to them, selling his body for temporary peace.  Tch, you guys actually like this kind of thing?  You really have no taste."

Lin Anqu's assessment of Mu Miao was utterly dismissive, his eyes like those of someone looking at a fallen boy from a seedy place.

Mu Miao's hearing was sharp, but he was so shocked by the scene that he couldn't comprehend anyone harboring such malicious thoughts toward him.

The little merman's round eyes looked timidly at the crowd. He could sense the fishermen's fear and the deep malice emanating from them.

Especially the players mixed among them, watching him with unclear expressions.

Mu Miao's tail curled up, his thoughts turning negative.  They certainly know about his "bad fish" identity, he thought, and they're planning how to get rid of him.

His imagination terrified Mu Miao, his face turning pale. At that moment, a man dressed simply, with a scholarly air, strode towards him.

Terror made Mu Miao tremble, his eyes red-rimmed, his eyelashes adorned with tears.  His voice choked. "Don't… don't come closer, I'm scared…"

A jacket was draped over him, the man shielding him from the others' gazes.  Mu Miao's tears threatened to fall, as he stared blankly at the man who knelt beside him. "You…"

Wen Fansen's eyes were filled with gentleness. He smoothed the jacket on Mu Miao, softly comforting him. "Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you. Relax, don't cry."

Perhaps his appearance resembled one of Mu Miao's brothers, causing Mu Miao to subconsciously rely on him.  Under Wen Fansen's comfort, his tears finally broke free.

Alone in a strange world, captured, and then harassed by a dolphin, various grievances welled up in Mu Miao's heart. He buried his head in Wen Fansen's embrace, sobbing uncontrollably.

Wen Fansen clearly hadn't anticipated the merman's dependence on a stranger. His hand froze mid-air, awkwardly patting his back.  "It's alright, it's alright."

Mu Miao clung to him, sobbing.

Looking down at Mu Miao's slender arms and legs, and his exquisitely beautiful face, Wen Fansen felt uneasy. "You… were you born in the sea?"

Mu Miao raised his tear-stained face, not understanding the question, but nodded.

Wen Fansen visibly relaxed, whispering a sigh of relief. "That's good, that's good…"

Yu Kai, arriving hurriedly, saw his young uncle close to the annoying outsider and exploded, rushing to pull them apart.

He yelled, "Hey, hey, hey! Who are you?! This is my little uncle! This is my uncle's little uncle! Get away from him!" (T/N; This is what originally written in the raws :> )

Wen Fansen's hand remained on Mu Miao's shoulders. He had heard the villagers call the merman an ominous sign, their avoidance starkly contrasting with this suddenly appearing child.

Wen Fansen couldn't gauge the villagers' attitude towards the merman. He even suspected Yu Chen was being manipulated by adults, intentionally using the merman to try and harm him.

Meanwhile, Yu Kai's words astonished the villagers. They naturally knew who Yu Kai's uncle was, but could someone who hated monsters so much really have a connection with this merman?

A frank middle-aged man immediately spoke up. "Kai, don't talk nonsense! How could Mr. Yu have any connection with this menace?"

Wen Fansen also refused. "Sorry, young man, I don't think you can take care of the merman. If your elders know him, please call them."

Hearing Yu Chen's name, Mu Miao tugged at Wen Fansen's clothes, wanting to say he did indeed know the child. This action, however, was misinterpreted as fear by the latter.

In an instant, Mu Miao was pulled into Wen Fansen's embrace. "Don't worry, I won't let them take you away."

Yu Kai's eyes widened, angrily pointing at them. "Liar! He's raised by my uncle. And, do you know who I am?!  Do you dare disobey me? My grandpa is the village head! Do you believe I'll have him kick you both out?!"

His words silenced everyone.

Wen Fansen and his companions had been in Yu Family Village for a day and knew the village head's authority. Without the village head's approval, they wouldn't have been able to enter the village.

They looked at the little brat, never imagining he was the village head's grandson.  Perhaps making a fuss to his grandfather could actually get them kicked out.

An outsider couldn't sit still. "Hey! Give the merman back to them! Don't get us kicked out too!"

This prompted others to agree, and the scene became chaotic.

A tall, imposing man in a simple T-shirt, carrying a silver box, came to Wen Fansen's side and whispered in his ear, "Dr. Wen, don't meddle. The mission comes first."

He gestured with the box.

Wen Fansen hesitated, looking at Mu Miao, who was clinging to him, unwilling to relinquish him. The man frowned, grabbing his wrist, attempting to forcibly pull him away.

Seeing that he had intimidated them, Yu Kai proudly puffed out his chest. "Did you hear that? Your companion told you to return my little uncle. Quickly… Ow! Who dares hit me?!"

Yu Kai's head was suddenly struck from behind.  He turned around angrily, ready to see who dared hit him.

Seeing the newcomer, Yu Kai exclaimed joyfully, "Uncle Yu Chen, you're finally here!"
