Mu Miao saw the person approach with ill intentions, continuously calling him Pei Nuo, and, irritated, turned around to face him directly.
His pink little face was stern, and his sarcasm was at full capacity. "Is your hearing bad too? Or have you been hanging around Pei Qingye for too long, your IQ plummeting to the point that you can't understand simple words? I said my name is Mu Miao, not Pei Nuo."
Bai Jialin's face darkened, a storm of emotions swirling in his eyes, but he still maintained his polite demeanor.
He smiled, opening his mouth to explain, "Sorry, Mu Miao, you resemble a dear departed friend of mine. Seeing you just reminded me of him, and for my behavior, I apologize."
His brows were furrowed in sadness, almost as if he was genuinely grieving Pei Nuo's death.
Mu Miao hesitated for a moment, feeling a pang of self-doubt. Could this person actually be a good one? Had he misunderstood him?
Bai Jialin's eyes held regret as he gave a deep bow. "If my actions have caused you any discomfort, Mu Miao, I sincerely apologize. Please forgive me."
Mu Miao pursed his lips. He was someone with extremely high double standards and was susceptible to softness rather than firmness.
Although his initial impression of Bai Jialin wasn't good, the other man had gone to such lengths to apologize, and Mu Miao couldn't bring himself to reject him outright.
Moreover, Bai Jialin wasn't Pei Qingye and had never caused him any real harm.
Mu Miao's voice was quiet. "It's fine..."
"Mu Miao, how can you bully your classmate?"
Teacher Zhong's angry voice came from behind. His large hand shoved Mu Miao aside, standing next to Bai Jialin, his eyes wide with fury.
Before Mu Miao could say anything, Bai Jialin forced a smile and spoke first. "Teacher Zhong, it's nothing. I just saw that Mu Miao hadn't come to class, and I was worried about him. I didn't realize that Mu Miao was in a bad mood, and that was my mistake."
In a single sentence, he shifted the blame of skipping class and bullying to Mu Miao.
Mu Miao stood dumbfounded, feeling as though his entire worldview had collapsed and was being rebuilt in an instant.
He had never encountered this type of person before. Although Bai Jialin hadn't directly insulted him, Mu Miao felt as if he'd just been slapped by an invisible hand, simmering with anger but unable to vent it.
"Good child, don't be scared." Teacher Zhong nodded, patting Bai Jialin's back twice.
Teacher Zhong's kind expression vanished as he faced Mu Miao. He had already learned that the Pei family had only one adopted son, besides Pei Qingye, who had recently passed away.
Mu Miao couldn't possibly be from the Pei family. Perhaps he'd used his face to deceive Pei Qingye into taking him in as a student. How could an ordinary student with no background be compared to Bai Jialin?
With these thoughts, Teacher Zhong looked at Mu Miao's beautiful face, instinctively swallowing.
If Pei Qingye was no longer around, maybe he could get a piece of the pie.
Mu Miao felt disgusted as he noticed Teacher Zhong's gaze. He rubbed his wrist, not wanting to engage with them further, and turned to leave.
"Mu Miao!" Teacher Zhong's greasy hand grabbed Mu Miao's wrist, his mind clouded with desire as he fondled it affectionately. "The teacher didn't say you could go. You have no manners, kid."
