Siqi, the snake coiled around Mu Miao's neck, was disturbed by the sharp voice and unhappily flicked its tongue. Mu Miao gently stroked its head, soothing it, "It's okay, it's okay."

He quickly pulled over the distraught Li Cong, holding his shoulders and shaking him, "Li Cong, calm down. She's a living person; resurrection is her ability."

Su Hanxia raised an eyebrow at this, her usually sleepy phoenix eyes slightly opening as she looked at Mu Miao. "Merman, you know quite a bit. As a god-level NPC, are you aware of the system's existence?"

Her question was blunt, causing Mu Miao to freeze, his mind going blank.

Lin Anqu and Liu Xitu on the other side suddenly realized something and silently watched Su Hanxia probe Mu Miao. Only Li Cong remained dumbfounded, "The system? Mu Miao is a native NPC; how would he know about the system?"

He successfully earned Su Hanxia a withering glare.

001: 【Maintain this state, don't move!】

Mu Miao knew that 001 was helping him and quickly maintained his dazed expression.  Internally, he was overwhelmed with emotion, 【001, I knew you were the best!  Much more reliable than my brother.】

001 scoffed, 【Don't compare me to your idiot brother; it's bad luck!】

【Listen to me. I'll count to three, and then you move. Three, two, one, move!】

At 001's command, Mu Miao immediately put on a bewildered expression, "Huh? Sister, what did you just say?"

Su Hanxia observed his expression. Mu Miao's innocent look showed no flaws, identical to the reaction of an ordinary NPC whose system would freeze for a few seconds upon hearing anything system-related.

As Mu Miao approached her, he realized she was very tall, even a few centimeters taller than him—almost 1.8 meters, creating a strong sense of oppression.

Mu Miao felt guilty but forced a bewildered expression, "Sister, is there something wrong?"

Su Hanxia stared at him for a few seconds, then casually looked away, yawning, "Nothing, it's just that my woman's intuition tells me, little guy, you have a problem."

Mu Miao chuckled dryly, pretending not to understand.

Internally, like a helpless child seeking help from a reliable mother, 【Wuwuwuwuwu—What do I do, 001? She suspects me! 001, she suspects me! And she's right, wuwuwuwuwu.】

001 scolded, 【What are you panicking about? You know what a face is, right? Don't use it now.  Don't care what she says; just say you don't know.】

【Damn, her so-called sixth sense is really strong! She can feel this; it's unbelievable.】

Following 001's instructions, Mu Miao continued to maintain his innocent persona. No matter how Su Hanxia probed him, he blinked his big eyes and said things like, "Sister, I don't know."

Lin Anqu and Liu Xitu's suspicions largely disappeared.  Lin Anqu looked at Mu Miao, who appeared pitiful under Su Hanxia's questioning, and couldn't help but frown.

He stepped forward, protecting Mu Miao.  Only when his gaze fell on Siqi did his heart tremble violently.  He spoke to Su Hanxia in a strong, calm voice, "Alright, his reactions are all normal; don't bully him."

"Oh, is this bullying now?" Su Hanxia shrugged. "Fine, I won't ask."

"Get out of the way, you're blocking me from collecting the body," she said to Lin Anqu.  Passing by Mu Miao, she looked at his innocent face and said meaningfully, "Little white lotus, not bad."

Mu Miao pretended not to understand and continued to smile.

"You don't hit someone who's smiling," this was a survival skill Mu Miao's brother had taught him. Su Hanxia was indeed stunned for a moment, then chuckled, "Interesting."

Only Zheng Ji was completely unaware; he was already astonished by the two Su Hanxias, but no one else showed much surprise, except for Li Cong, who liked to make a fuss.

This made him wonder if his experience was too limited, and that people with special abilities were actually abundant.

Seeing her go to process the body, Mu Miao relaxed and let out a sigh of relief. This woman with a sixth sense was terrifying; he felt she could easily see through his lies.

Lin Anqu saw his listless appearance and, thinking he was scared by Su Hanxia, felt a pang of sympathy.  "Don't mind her; she's just crazy."

Siqi also rubbed his chin with its tongue, “Sss~ (I'll protect you!)”

Mu Miao ignored Lin Anqu and kissed Siqi's head, moved, "You're so good."

Lin Anqu's face darkened considerably.

With Zheng Ji and Su Hanxia's joining, the journey to find Wen Fansheng became much easier. Zheng Ji was a formally trained soldier, dealing with monster attacks with ease.

Mu Miao's biggest difficulty was Siqi. The snake was too heavy; he had to put it down to rest after a while. Siqi would obediently inch along the ground like a caterpillar until it got tired, at which point Mu Miao would pick it up again.

Finally, they found Wen Fansheng in a remote, overgrown area. He was being chased by a brown bear with huge fangs, covered in blood, with a wound on his forehead; bright red blood flowed down his face.  Even so, he still protected the silver box in his arms.

Zheng Ji's heart leaped into his throat as he ran towards him, "Wen Fansheng!"

Hope flashed in Wen Fansheng's eyes as he desperately ran towards them.

Mu Miao watched the terrifying brown bear getting closer.  He wanted to step forward but stopped.

Wen Fansheng's leg was injured; every step was accompanied by intense pain. He gritted his teeth and persevered, cold sweat mixed with blood dripping onto the ground.  He caught a glimpse of the bear, which was very close.

It raised its dark claws.

"Zheng Ji!" Wen Fansheng suddenly stopped, using all his strength to throw the box, "Catch it!"

The claws landed on his back; a bloody splash erupted.  Wen Fansheng groaned and collapsed softly to the ground.

Mu Miao subconsciously closed his eyes. When he opened them again, everything was over; he only heard Wen Fansheng's weak cry, "Go—take the box and go!"

Zheng Ji caught the box. His breathing was heavy, his eyes bloodshot, as he slowly walked towards Wen Fansheng.

He recognized the bear; it had been created in the laboratory he guarded. To make it stronger, the researchers had given it the agility of a wolf and the venom of a snake.

Wen Fansheng, having been scratched by it, was surely dead.

Zheng Ji knew this, yet he still ran towards him without hesitation. He shoved the box into Mu Miao's arms, quickly saying, "This contains a human embryo bank; there are no humans left outside. This is the last hope."

"I lived for missions in my first half of life. Now, I want to live for myself. Please."

He gave Mu Miao a standard military salute, turned, and ran towards Wen Fansheng, killing the brown bear at the cost of an arm.

Wen Fansheng was already dead. Zheng Ji knelt beside him, his bloodstained hands brushing away the hair from his face, "Sorry, Doctor, I didn't listen to you this time."

His gaze swept across the desolate wasteland littered with corpses, and he smiled at the monster to whom he had entrusted the flame of hope.  His knife ruthlessly slit his own throat.

Zheng Ji died, along with Wen Fansheng.

Mu Miao hugged the box tightly, murmuring, "Life's hardships, peace in the afterlife. Free souls shouldn't be trapped in this narrow world. Wen Fansheng, Zheng Ji, goodbye."

Lin Anqu, combining what Zheng Ji said to Mu Miao before his death with his own knowledge, quickly understood the true background of this world.

Science and technology were used recklessly on animals, attempting to create the strongest fighting force. But clearly, they failed; human civilization was ruthlessly destroyed by the monsters they created.

For some reason, Yu Village had become the only refuge in this world. The survivors flocked there, but now even this refuge had fallen.

Lin Anqu cursed the system a thousand times in his heart, "Cruel enough, not even leaving us a way to live."

The world had already fallen; where could they possibly escape?

Mu Miao felt a cold wind blowing, snowflakes falling on his curled eyelashes, turning into water droplets and sliding down. He looked up, the sky filled with falling snow.

A snow-white phoenix appeared on the horizon, its magnificent tail feathers trailing as it soared through the blue sky. Li Cong exclaimed, "That's... a phoenix?"

Liu Xitu caught a snowflake, puzzled, "It's snowing?"

With the appearance of the white phoenix, the temperature plummeted. The green leaves on the trees gradually turned yellow, frost formed on the grass, and the season transitioned directly from sweltering summer to a frigid winter.

Mu Miao followed the beautiful silver-white phoenix with his gaze, catching a snowflake, "So fast?"

Yinjing Nan's appearance signified the end of this world. Everything froze, creatures perished in the severe cold, and silver frost covered the world, awaiting rebirth.

Mu Miao had anticipated this.

001 sighed, 【Jing Nan is still so cute, isn't she?  Truly, no one can resist a cute girl's charm.】

Mu Miao couldn't believe his ears, 【…Cute?】

But after considering Jing Nan's image—big eyes, twintails, a baby face—it seemed to fit the standard configuration of a cute girl.

Mu Miao felt the world was a bit magical, 【You like this type?】

【I used to,】 001's tone was somewhat wistful, 【but since this little girl almost killed me, I've been a little afraid of this type.  Damn it, it's all that bastard Qu Linxi's fault! If he hadn't offended people, I wouldn't have been implicated.】

【Cough, getting sidetracked.】 001 changed the subject, 【This instance is ending. You must find a way to keep these players here. Or, to put it another way, kill them.】

These players were souls held captive by the system. If they died in this world, they could directly enter reincarnation.

Mu Miao nodded, clenching his fists, 【Don't worry! I can do it.】

He had just given 001 his assurance when, the next second, his forehead was tapped. He looked blankly at Lin Anqu, who had done it.

Under Siqi's watchful gaze, Lin Anqu quickly withdrew his hand.  Looking at the embryo box in Mu Miao's arms, he said with chilling brevity, "Give me the box."

The embryo box rested on Siqi. Mu Miao immediately retreated defensively; he even suspected that if Siqi weren't there, this person would have snatched it.

"This was given to me by Brother Zheng Ji," Mu Miao hugged the box and moved to the side, fiercely, "I'm not giving it to you, it's mine!"

Liu Xitu pushed Lin Anqu aside, cracking his knuckles, and said like a bandit, "No more nonsense, let's just grab it."

Su Hanxia stood beside them, showing her position.

Seeing the situation turn sour, Li Cong immediately protected Mu Miao, "No, you're forcing him! Can't you talk properly? Don't start another fight."

He turned to persuade Mu Miao, "Mu Mu, it's no use to you; it's very useful to us. Can you give it to us?"

Mu Miao refused, "No!"

"I told you not to waste time with him," Liu Xitu grabbed Mu Miao's collar and reached for the box, "Hand it over."

【Damn, damn, you big oaf, you dare grab my wife! Don't let me know where you live, or I'll beat you up in a sack!】

【Is this an internal conflict?】

【What internal conflict? They're NPCs, not players; they're completely different.】

【Ahhhhh—You're not allowed to touch my wife!】

Liu Xitu's arms were all muscle; he was very strong. Mu Miao couldn't break free. Just as Liu Xitu's hand was about to touch the box, Siqi quickly raised its body and bit down.

Liu Xitu was prepared; his arm was covered with a protective barrier. Siqi bit the barrier, and just as he felt relieved, the barrier shattered inch by inch under Siqi's venomous fangs.

"Damn!"

Liu Xitu cursed, pushing Mu Miao away.

Mu Miao fell to the ground, still protecting the box and Siqi. Siqi's fangs missed, but its body remained in an attacking posture towards Liu Xitu, ready to bite again at any moment.

Liu Xitu was intimidated and didn't dare to approach again.

Li Cong saw Mu Miao fall and was heartbroken.  Just as he was about to help him, a cold blade pressed against his neck.

Su Hanxia held the knife, her voice languid, "Let me advise you, don't interfere, or I'll kill you."

Li Cong was anxious and was about to ask Lin Anqu for help but remembered that he also disliked Mu Miao.

Mu Miao sat on the ground looking pitiful, looking up at the players surrounding him with unfriendly gazes.  He shrank his body, hugging Siqi and the box tightly.
