Marcus and Logan walked outside to one of the gardens again. They sat down on a bench by a small pond. Neither of them said a word for a while. Logan was looking at the pond in thought and Marcus was looking at Logan.

"I'm sorry." Logan quietly says.

"Whatever for, angelo mia?" Marcus asks

Logan looks at him. "Walking off the way I did. Not letting you explain. It wasn't fair to you."

"It's alright, angelo mia. I'm sorry I upset you."

Logan shakes her head. "I should have let you explain."

"If I may ask, why didn't you? Why did you walk off the way you did?"

Logan sighed. "Honestly. I don't know. I think I was just overwhelmed, and then when it sounded like you were using my mother, I got upset. With that, I had to walk away before I exploded and set something on fire."

"I understand the need to step away, but we could have just talked calmly about it."

"Yeah, I guess. I'm just not used to this whole thing."

"What?"

Logan looked at Marcus. "Having a family....Mom and all the other elementals were killed less than a year after I was born. After that, I grew up bouncing around on the streets until I was fully grown. I was pretty much always alone. I mean, I had friends, but none knew what I was. None that really cared...It was always just me." Logan says as she looks out into the pond and plays with her necklace.

"You have people that actually care about you here."

"I know. And I'm not used to that."

"We better get you used to that because it's not changing, angelo mia. I will always care about you, and I know Demetri will, too."

Logan slightly smiled. "I'm sorry for storming off earlier."

"It's okay, angelo mia. I understand. I'm sorry I upset you."

Logan shrugged his apology off. "Will you explain now?" Logan asked, and Marcus gave her a questioning look. "What I didn't let you explain yesterday...about mom."

"Ahh. Your mother was an amazing woman. I liked her a lot, but I had no idea she was supernatural. Nor did I know that she knew I was a vampire. As far as I knew, she was an unsuspecting human. When I left Goldhollow, she gave me her landline number, and I will admit that I had thought of calling her many times after I left, but I didn't want to put her in danger. And as selfish as this sounds, I didn't want to turn her only for her to find her true mate and leave."

"I don't know if turning her would have worked anyway since she was an elemental."

"Yes. But I didn't know she wasn't human until you came into the throne room with the Cullens and Isabella." Marcus says, and Logan nods in understanding. "I won't say that what your mother and I had was love because it wasn't, but I truly did like your mother and I enjoyed spending my time with her. It was never my intention to use her. I was just enjoying my vacation with an incredible woman who was stubborn and full of life. It also wasn't my intention to sleep with her. I was content with just spending my few days of vacation with her company in an innocent regard before leaving. But it just happened and I can't say I regret it because it brought me something I never perceived as possible." Marcus says as he looks at Logan.

Logan smiles a little. "So you don't see me as an abomination?"

"Of course not. Why would I?"

"I'm something unknown. Something no one has ever perceived as possible. I'm not naive enough to think that people will just accept what I am, regardless of who I am to them."

"You're worried that I wouldn't accept you...that Demetri wouldn't accept you...just because you're unique." Marcus says in realization. "Is that why you stayed hidden from the Vampire world?"

"That was part of it."

"And the other part?"

"Vampires killed my mother and all the other elementals. I don't know why they did it, but I didn't want to expose myself to the world as a vampire elemental hybrid....also I was worried that your coven would put a bounty on my head."

"That wouldn't happen."

"Only because I'm your kid. If I wasn't, they would have killed me because I'm an unknown...an unknown that they can't control."

"We aren't that evil."

"Maybe not but it wasn't something that was worth the risk to me."

"So then why come to Volterra at all?"

"Because Bella begged me to. If it was anyone else, I would have laughed in their face, but Bella begged me to come and help her save her jackass boyfriend. So I did. But I came to protect her more than anything else."

"You're loyal to those you care about."

"I am."

"It's a good quality to have."

"I like to think it is."

"Do you regret it?"

"Regret what?"

"Coming to Volterra."

After a moment of silence, Logan speaks up. "No. I'd don't regret it....You know, I've always wanted to know more about my father?"

"You did?"

"Yeah. My mom didn't tell me much about you before she died but I always wanted to find out more. I just never knew where to look. I guess I do have to thank the disco ball asshole for something." Logan says and Marcus looks at her confused. "If he wasn't a suicidal idiot, I would never have come here and found out about you...or met Demetri. Meeting you and learning more about you has been something I have wanted since I was a kid."

"I'm glad we have this chance now, angelo mia." Marcus says with a small smile.

"Me too." Logan replies
