The League of Villains' hideout was shrouded in darkness as Hawks approached silently, a blend of desperation and fury driving him forward. All the pieces had finally fallen into place—a trail of sightings, whispers, and ominous clues, all leading here. Tokoyami had been taken by All For One. And Hawks was prepared to do whatever it took to bring him back.
He burst through the entrance, feathers at the ready, but his path was unexpectedly clear. Too clear. This was a trap, and they knew he was coming. His jaw tightened as he stormed through the dimly lit halls, his feathers extending to search for any sign of Tokoyami.
Finally, he reached a large, open chamber, cold and sterile, with a single figure standing at the far end: All For One. His presence was as menacing as ever, a subtle smile forming beneath the darkness of his mask.
"Where is my student?" Hawks demanded his voice a growl as he levelled his wings defensively, feathers poised for attack.
All For One tilted his head slightly, a mockery of sympathy in his voice. "Such a pity. It was so easy to wait... until he reached his breaking point. You heroes always push your protégés so hard." He raised a hand and gestured to the shadows behind him. "Come here, child."
From the darkness, Tokoyami emerged, walking forward with a rigid, unnatural gait. Hawks' heart plummeted as he took in Tokoyami's glassy, vacant expression—and his eyes, glowing an eerie green instead of their usual red.
"Hello, Hawks," Tokoyami said in a hollow, distant voice, his tone empty of the usual depth and intensity. It was as if he were a stranger, wrapped in Tokoyami's skin.
Hawks' fists clenched as he watched Tokoyami approach, everything inside him screaming that something was horribly, fundamentally wrong. "What have you done to him?" he spat, every word dripping with anger.
All For One chuckled, glancing down at Tokoyami with a paternal affection that twisted Hawks' stomach. He placed a hand on Tokoyami's head, patting him as though he were a prized possession. "You see, you heroes took someone very precious to us," he said, his voice as smooth as it was venomous. "It's only fair that we return the favour."
Hawks could feel his rage building, his body practically shaking as he watched All For One manipulate his student like a puppet. "Let him go, now!" Hawks shouted, stepping forward.
But before he could move any further, a figure blocked his path—Dabi, smirking as flames flickered around his hands. "You're not going anywhere, Hawks," he drawled. "Why not stick around? The show's just starting."
Hawks' feathers flared, and he launched himself at Tokoyami, desperate to break him out of All For One's hold, but Dabi's flames cut him off. He narrowly dodged, his wings singed, before circling back.
The fight erupted. Hawks darted between Dabi's blue flames, using his feathers to keep him at bay, but his attention was split, always flickering back to Tokoyami, who stood passively, watching, under All For One's influence.
"Tokoyami, it's me! Listen to my voice!" Hawks shouted, desperation clawing at his throat. He dodged another burst of flames, throwing a handful of feathers to scatter Dabi's attacks, but Dabi blocked him every time he tried to reach Tokoyami.
"You're wasting your breath," Dabi taunted, a malicious gleam in his eyes. "The kid's ours now."
Hawks gritted his teeth, refusing to believe it. "I know you're still in there, Tokoyami!" he yelled again, his voice echoing in the chamber.
For a split second, he saw a flicker of something in Tokoyami's face—a brief falter, a hesitation, as though some part of him was still fighting. But then, All For One's hand tightened on Tokoyami's shoulder, and the green glow in his eyes brightened.
"Why don't you face it, Hawks?" All For One's voice was a low, insidious murmur. "Even your best efforts won't reach him now."
Dabi lunged forward, and Hawks barely had time to react, spinning to avoid a surge of searing blue flames that licked at his jacket. His mind was racing, but he couldn't afford to lose focus. Tokoyami was depending on him.
He dodged to the side, sending a flurry of feathers towards Dabi to force him back, then turned to face All For One, his resolve hardening.
"Tokoyami," he said, his voice calm and steady, cutting through the noise. "Remember who you are. Remember the heroes, the lessons, the dreams you've fought for. Fight him."
For a heartbeat, Tokoyami's eyes flickered back to red, and his hands trembled at his sides. All For One's grip on him tightened, but the hold was weakening. The strain of resisting was visible on Tokoyami's face, the green light dimming, a spark of recognition growing in his eyes.
With a roar of defiance, Hawks pushed past Dabi's flames, lunging forward to shield Tokoyami from All For One's grasp. His wings flared wide, shielding Tokoyami as he pulled his student close.
"Come on, kid," Hawks murmured, his voice filled with quiet urgency. "We're going home."
At that moment, Tokoyami blinked, his eyes clearing, the green light fading. He looked up at Hawks, exhausted but himself again.
"Hawks... you came for me," he whispered the words barely a breath.
Hawks managed a small, relieved smile, squeezing Tokoyami's shoulder. "Always." He turned back, wings poised for a quick exit, ready to carry them both to safety, leaving nothing behind but a broken spell and a bitter defeat for All For One.
As they escaped, Hawks felt Tokoyami grip his arm tightly, and he knew, without a doubt, that they'd found each other again against the darkness.
