Devi was sleeping peacefully when her dream took a dark turn. A man dressed in dark, flowy robes appeared and pushed her off a cliff. He caught her at the last second, gripping her bracelet and leaving her dangling over a dark abyss. He let out a strange laugh, a mix between a chortle and snicker, before letting go.
She woke with a start. It was still dark outside, and about 70 minutes left until sunrise. A perk of being the daughter of the sun god is knowing when your father is about to show up.
There was a knock at her door. She squinted at it. Another loud knock ensued. Sighing, she got out of her comfortable bed and opened the door. The little slimmer of guilt in her hoped it was Aiden so she could apologize, but on the other side was Thalia.
"You seem disappointed?" Thalia was dressed in her usual black leather jacket and combat boots. Her spear and shield were strapped to her back, and she wore purple lipstick.
"No, sorry if I seemed like it. I was just expecting..." Devi trailed off her eyes looking at the Haepestus cabin in the distance before focusing on the girl in front of her. "You know what, it doesn't really matter. What are you here for?"
"I wanted to let you know I'm about to leave for the quest."
"Already? It's not even bright outside."
"Zoe wanted to get an early start since we barely have enough time. I tried convincing her to let us get a few more hours of sleep, but she refused. I gave up on arguing too because every time she said 'thy', I was about to lose it." Thalia rolled her eyes. She noticed Devi's silence, and feeling bad she said, "I'm sorry that you couldn't come on this quest. I know how close you and Annabeth are."
"It's fine. Plus, you would do a better job at finding her than me." Devi waved off the pity. If there's one thing she hated, it was people feeling sorry for her. It annoyed her so much. She wasn't someone who needed sympathy from others to make herself feel better.
Thalia nodded before looking down to check her watch and then looked back up at Devi. She smiled before her eyes widened. "Oh shit! I forgot to grab my backpack! I'll see you later, Devi!" She ran off in the distance as Devi chuckled at her friend's unfortunate situation.
Pulling on the handle, Devi started to close the door but then was stopped by a foot that slid in between the doorway. She raised her head to meet the owner of the foot.
"Percy, what the fuck?" She opened the door slightly wider to inquire about him.
"We need to hurry if we want to catch up to them." He said hurriedly, pushing the door open even wider. He glanced down at her Spiderman pajama pants and Nirvana shirt before smirking. "Nice pajamas, Dazzle Diva."
Her face felt like it was on fire. "Shut up, Barnacle Beard! What do you mean to catch them? What are you even doing here?"
"Long story short, we saved this monster cow thing and have to go on the quest. Annabeth needs us, so we have to go."
"Okay."
"Devi I don't care if you don't like me but —wait, did you say okay?" Percy furrowed his brows.
"Yeah, I mean, I'm not your biggest fan, but Annabeth is my best friend and yours so we have to help her." Devi shrugged like it was simple.
"Oh." Percy thought he was going to have to argue with her to go with him. "Ok, then."
