Devi was shuddering from how fast they were flying. Neither Blackjack nor Percy had any intentions of stopping. Surprisingly, Blackjack flew higher into the clouds, sending more chills through her body. "Is there any way we could fly lower?" She asked above Percy's shoulder, her teeth chattering.

"Nope, unless you want to cause a serious accident on the expressway. It's just a little chilly. We'll be fine."

"But you're cold too." She pointed out how he was slightly shivering.

"Ok, but— wait, is that Zoe driving?"

Devi squinted at the van they had been following for an hour. It was Zoe driving. She was arguing with Thalia, who sat in the passenger seat. They looked like they were fighting over the GPS while Grover and Bianca sat quietly in the back, witnessing the mess.

"Let's land real quick. They're probably gonna rest a that bus stop. Percy told Devi and directed the pegasus to land near the top of the Chrysler Building. They watched the white camo van, thinking it would pull into the bus station, but it kept driving.

"What's Zoe doing?" Devi muttered.

"I don't think we can go to the donut shop," Percy said out of nowhere.

Devi turned to him, confused. "Huh?"

"Blackjack," was all he said.

She shrugged, choosing to ignore Pery trying to explain to Blackjack that taking a flying horse to a donut shop would give every cop there a heart attack, while Blackjack didn't seem to get it.

"We should probably go after them before we lose them for the third time," Devi mentioned, monitoring the van that snaked toward the Lincoln tunnel. It appeared that Zoe was determined to find Artemis.

"Yeah, let's go," Percy said.

Blackjack was about to leap off the building when the flying horse whinnied in alarm and almost threw Percy and Devi off. Something curled around the two demigods' legs like a snake. Devi reached for the dagger charm on her bracelet to cut herself free, but when she looked down, there were no snakes. It was vines —grape vines— that sprouted from the crack between the stones of the building. They were wrapping around Blackjack's legs and Percy's and Devi's ankles so they couldn't move.

Grape vines only meant one thing.

The wine dude.

"Going somewhere?" Mr.D asked,

He was leaning against the building with his feet levitating in the air, his leopard-skin warm-up suit and black hair whipping around in the wind.

Mr. D sighed in exasperation. "The next person, or horse, who calls me the 'wine dude ' will end up in a bottle of Merlot!"

Did he just read my mind? Devi thought before realizing Blackjack might've been the one who called him the wine dude since gods could talk to animals and all.

"Mr. D, what do you want?" Percy sounded like he was trying to stay calm.

"Oh, what do I want? You thought, perhaps, that that immortal, all-powerful director of camp would not notice you two leaving without permission."

"Well....maybe," Percy answered.

Devi felt the vines around her ankles keep wrapping. "Percy, shut up unless you want us to die."
