CHAPTER 17

They say that time heals everything, even the toughest of injuries but that is a false statement. It's just that we learn to live with it. Rathore brothers also didn't forgot the burns destiny gave them but learned to live with it. After four days they were back to their works, with Kabir and Shrey at Marham and Aarav at his company.

While doing the routine check-ups of the patients with his senior, Shrey was called by his HOD. He excused himself and went to the Doctor's cabin. He asked the man about the reason of calling him and he informed him that today Shrey will accompany him to a surgery. Shrey for a second didn't believed what he heard given his bewildered expression but the senior explained him that only two brilliant students from their batch got the honor to assist in the surgery and one of them is him. Shrey got so happy listening that he thanked him and then ran from there after getting the schedule for the surgery.

He ran straight to Kabir's cabin and burst in without knocking and saw Kabir going through some patients file. Kabir looked up startled but before he could ask anything Shrey beat him to it, "Bhaiya guess what today I'm gonna assist in a surgery", he informed him happily but Kabir got confused hearing this and questioned him then he answered about how he got this opportunity as being an intern these opportunities were  difficult to get  and when Kabir got to know the whole thing he was on cloud nine hearing this, he praised his brother and got up, hugged him tightly. He was happy that his brother was following in his footsteps.

Then he left from there as he had to prepare for the surgery for that he had to have every information about patient's diagnosis. So he asked for the patient's file and started studying. After nearly two hours he studied the file and got to know everything. It was time for the surgery, so he prepared himself and by giving him prep talks but Kabir surprised him by being there. He didn't want to miss his brother's first surgery as assistant surgeon. All the doctors and nurses were surprised seeing him there, so one of the doctor asked, "Sir you here", "Yeah I thought to check the things here, you all can continue", he told them and then turned to Shrey, "All the best for your first surgery Dr. Shrey", he said and patted his head. Shrey got truly happy and confident that he can do this by seeing his brother, "Thank you Sir, I won't let you down", he said and then bent down to take his blessings but Kabir immediately stepped back, "What are you doing Shrey? there's no need for all this and besides my blessings are always with you", he said.

But Shrey was stubborn, "Sir till the time you won't give me your blessings I won't go to the OT", Shrey said stubbornly. "What is this childishness Shrey? you can't keep the OT stalling, now go and perform your task and my blessings are always with you", Kabir said with authority that Shrey just whined and left from there muttering, "Hamesha aise hi karte hai", which Kabir heard and Laughed.

After nearly five hours, the surgery got over successfully and they saved the patient. When the doctor and Shrey came out to give the good news to the family, he felt a sense of accomplishment watching the smiles on the relatives face and all the exhaustion from standing at the same place for five hours, went away.

He went to give the good news to his brother, "Bhaiya how can you do big big surgeries by standing for hours and here I am barely able to stand after five hours surgery", he complained as soon as he got in his cabin. Kabir laughed and opened his arms and Shrey dashed into him. "Aww mera baccha thak gaya, and rahi baat long surgeries ki toh when a life is dependent on you then you are automatically motivated to give your hundred percent to save the life, It doesn't matter that how long you have to stay standing at the table all matters is that one life which is in your life and when it is saved all the exhaustion fades away and all that remains is contentment", Kabir explained him while caressing his head. Shrey can relate to it because that is how he felt when he helped in saving the life of the patient. Now he felt more proud of his brother who saves lives of the people and he's happy that he chose this profession.
