Nothing was going well. Nothing at all. But now it was time for our engagement.

My heart didn’t want to get married—not now.

It had only been a week since the shootout. The police were doing their best to figure out who shot at him and why.

Soumili had been missing for almost two weeks, and in the middle of this terrible situation, the forced engagement was happening.

My heart ached.

My body went through the motions, but my mind was racing with worry.

In the past few months, nothing seemed to go right. It felt as if we were trapped in endless misery, though I still didn't know who—or what—was truly behind it.

The police came here for an investigation, but things became too complex.

The events didn’t seem interconnected, and it was getting increasingly difficult for them to figure out why it was happening.

Every lead raised more questions than answers, leaving them tangled in a web of confusion.

Would things ever calm down? Would my peaceful life ever be the same again?

It felt like I wanted to disappear. Nothing felt exciting anymore. Everything seemed dull.

As for my feelings about Anirban, I couldn’t say I loved him, yet I couldn’t say I hated him either.

Somehow, I felt a strange familiarity with him,his presence brought me a certain comfort.

But any hint of physical closeness, just the slightest touch, filled me with unease.

Sometimes, I kept wondering if I was doing something wrong.

I stood there, lost in thought, I absentmindedly ran my fingers over the delicate gold and pearl bangles my future father-in-law had gifted me.

The cool weight of them on my wrists felt both comforting and strange, as if they were a reminder of a life I was yet to fully embrace.

Just then, a warm hand landed gently on my shoulder.

I turned to see my sister smiling at me, her eyes sparkling with admiration.

"Di, you look amazing," she said warmly, her gaze sweeping over my outfit.

"Really?" I asked, my lips curling into a soft smile.

"Absolutely," she nodded, then paused, squinting slightly as if searching for something.

A small line appeared on her forehead as she tilted her head, studying my face. "But… it feels like something's missing."

I looked at her, confused. "What? I’m wearing my bindi," I replied, touching my forehead as if to reassure myself it was still there.
