I: "Hello? Satvik

I: "Hello? Satvik... Flights are all canceled because of the bad weather. You don't need to go. Once the weather clears up, then go, okay?"

Suddenly-
CRASH!
A sharp sound cut through the phone.

I: "Wait...was that something breaking?"

There's a pause. A terrifying silence on the other end.

Then-
Satvik (whispering, panicked): "Okay... okay... but I think I'm going to die today. Come to Erin's house. Fast!"

I: "What? What the hell are you saying?! I'm coming-hang in there!"

My heart slammed against my chest as if trying to claw its way out. My hands tremble, fingers barely able to grip the phone properly.
What the hell did he mean? "Going to die today"?
No, no, no. This isn't happening.

I dashed to the door, flinging it open with such force it bangs against the wall. My feet pound the hallway floor, breath already ragged. The cold air sharp at my skin as I reached the parking lot, rain smacking against my face like slaps of urgency.

"Please, God, let him be okay."

I shoved the key into the ignition, fumbling for a second-my palms are sweaty. The engine roars to life, tires screeching as I back out faster than I should.

Every red light, every turn felt like an enemy.

"What happened? Did someone break in? Did he see something? Erin's house... why there? Who else is there? Satvik, please be okay."

The windshield whispered swish in a furious rhythm, barely keeping up with the torrential rain. I was driving like a madman, leaning forward, eyes wide, scanning every corner of the road.

I glance at the dashboard clock.
15 minutes.
15 minutes too long.

My throat was tight.
Something's terribly wrong. I could feel it-like the air itself is warning me.

"Hold on, Satvik. I'm coming."

I slammed the brakes and threw the car door open before the vehicle had fully stopped. My shoes splashed into cold puddles as I raced up to Erin's front porch, breath ragged and heart pounding like a war drum.

I knocked hard, again and again.

"Satvik! Satvik, open the door!"

Just as I raised my fist to knock once more, the door creaked open-slowly, unnaturally slow.

Satvik stood there, disheveled and pale, like someone who had seen something they couldn't explain. His eyes were wide and red-rimmed, hollow with a kind of fear that went beyond logic. His lips parted slightly.

"Come in," he said, barely audible.

I stared at him, frustration bubbling up through my chest. Was this some kind of sick joke?
