Comment: 20I was having a tiring day, checking up on patients one after another.
My feet ached, and my mind was a whirl of medical charts and test results. Still, I pushed on, knowing that each patient needed my full attention and care.
I moved through the busy obstetrics ward, I caught sight of a couple standing nervously by the doorway. I recognized the strain on their faces—a familiar sight in my line of work.
Approaching them with a gentle smile, I addressed them."Mr. and Mrs. Tripathi?"
I asked, extending my hand."Yes, Doctor," Mr. Tripathi replied, shaking my hand firmly.
His wife, a petite woman with weary eyes, managed a polite nod."Please, come into my office," I said, leading them to a small, private consultation room.
Once seated, I took a deep breath, ready to address the difficult conversation ahead.
"I’ve reviewed your medical records, Mrs. Tripathi. I understand you've been through a lot."
Mrs. Tripathi's eyes welled up, and she clasped her husband's hand tightly. "Yes, Doctor. We’ve been trying for so long. But nothing seems to work."
I nodded empathetically. "I see. Your tests indicate that your ovaries are not producing viable eggs, a condition known as premature ovarian failure. This makes natural conception extremely difficult."
She looked down, tears spilling onto her cheeks. Mr. Tripathi squeezed her hand, his own eyes glistening with emotion. "Is there no hope, Doctor?"
"There is hope," I assured them.
"One option we can explore is using donor eggs. This involves another woman donating her eggs, which we can then fertilize with your husband's sperm and implant into your uterus."
"Mrs. Tripathi, I understand your desire to have your own biological child,"
"However, given your condition, it's nearly impossible for you to conceive naturally."
Mr. Tripathi spoke up, "I don't have a problem with that. What matters most is having a child, and my wife experiencing the pregnancy."
"That's a positive approach,"
I replied, appreciating his support. "The process we're considering involves using donor eggs. Here's a brief explanation of how it works and the associated costs."
I continued, "First, we will select a suitable egg donor. The donor's eggs will be retrieved and fertilized with Mr. Tripathi's sperm in a lab. Once the embryos are developed, one or more will be implanted into your uterus, Mrs. Tripathi, allowing you to carry the pregnancy."
