chapter 19

"Cmon Morgan I don't have all day," I said. "What did you want to show me?"
Me and Morgan were on his back porch and he wanted to show me something. All those familiar memories started flooding back on this porch. I remember I would lay my head on his lap and he would sing me one of his songs that I'd like so much and I'd just fall asleep. I'd look at Indigo play with some random stick he'd find in the woods and he'd bring it back to me and Morgan.
"Sit down," he says and I sit down. For the past couple of months me and Morgan have been better off as friends and that was killing me on the inside a little. Every single day, we've been hanging out as much as we could and that just made me fall in love with him all over again. I'd go over his house and watch movies and you know, do couple stuff with him. He'd try to bring up us being a couple again and I'd be hesitant about it.
"It's not gon' take lone girl I promise," Morgan says.
I rolled my eyes and sat down on one of the couches.
"So since we're friends," he says. "I want you to know if you like this song. It's an old song."
He picked up his guitar he had and started strumming the tune to I Thought You Should Know. I started bobbing my head to the song since it used to make me cry at night when me and Morgan weren't talking.
"So how'd you like it?" He asked me with a smile on his face.
"I love it," I said. "You know it's my favorite."
"Great imma sing it to this one girl," he says and my smile faded.
I felt my heart drop to my stomach and felt sick.
"I met her at the airport when I landed and you know we get to talkin' and we might be good," he says. "You okay Curly Sue?"
"Oh yeah," I said and faked a smile.
I could tell Morgan knew something was up with me by the way he was looking. I felt like I was going to bust out crying. Yes, a part of me was still in love with Morgan deeply despite what he'd done. I don't care that was still my man no matter what.
"Hey Morgan do you mind if I leave?" I asked him. "I forgot I gotta go help your momma with something."
"Oh yeah by all means," he says letting me get up.

"And then he said he met the girl at an airport. Are you serious?" I said angrily at Lesli.
She just chuckled to herself and I rolled my eyes.
"Seems like you still love my son," she says.
"Yes Mrs. Wallen I do," I say sarcastically. "Let the whole world know I love your son."
"Well they did until he cheated on you," Ashlynn says with a giggle. "You still love my brother despite what he's done."
"Plus who even is this girl? I want to know what she looks like," I said while looking on my phone.
"I haven't even met her my damn self," Lesli says.
"Well I'll see him tonight," I said. "Maybe I'll meet her."
"How about we all meet her," Ashlynn suggested and we all agreed.
"Woah now," Lesli says looking at Ashlynn. "What if she ain't the one and we were making a big fuss?"
"I want to know who Morgan is dating," I said.
"Hold on I thought little Ms. I'll never get back with that redneck cowboy Morgan Wallen again is saying this," Ashlynn says crossing her arms. "Alyssa do you still love my brother?"
They were both looking at me with an anticipated expression on their faces. They wanted me to say it but I wasn't going to. I wouldn't let my guard down even if I had to confess to them about my love again to Morgan.
"Yes," I said finally. "Morgan...well I love Morgan and I don't care what he's done I still love him. I found it in my heart to forgive him and I love him alot and I can't stand to be away from him."
Ashlynn and Lesli look at each other and smirked at each other.
"Well Lyss," Ashlynn says. "Go get my brother back."

I quickly ran onto the porch and knocked on the door. I was pacing back and forth on the porch and Morgan wouldn't answer. I knocked again and Morgan finally answered.
"Damn girl," he chuckled. "You wanted to see me huh?"
"I need to talk to you," I said quickly fidgeting with my hands. "It's um...important."
"Well come in," he says and I quickly rush past him.
I sat on the couch and bit my lip nervously. He sat beside me and looked at me. I didn't even want to tell him about what was on my mind. But it was either now or never.
"I won't be long since I can tell you're busy," I said.
"Oh baby I got all the time in the world for you," he smiled.
That instantly made me melt right there.
"Well first," I said. "So...your mother asked and wanted to know if you have...or who is this girl you're going out with."
Morgan leaned back and chuckled to himself.
"Is this what this was about?" He laughed. "There isn't a girl Alyssa. I just did that to...you know...I didn't want you to know that I was for you. I know how much you liked the song and you haven't heard me play in a while."
"Well," I said wiping my eyes. "I'll be on my way then."
I tried getting up but Morgan sat me right back down.
"Not so fast cowgirl," He says. "Now told a lie. My momma done called up here cussin' at me because she thought I was sneaking a girl behind her back and not to mention that you was more curious than me."
I rolled my eyes. Dammit Lesli what happened to girls code?
"So, do you...still love me?" Morgan asked me. "You know Lyss, I knew I hurt your feelings today and I'm really sorry. I seriously am."
"Morgan I still love you no matter what," I said taking his hand. "It's just...since we've been hanging out together a lot I still have feelings for you no matter what."
"Aww that's sweet," he said and kissed me on the forehead.
"And..." I said. "I think we should get back together. I know it'll take time but I'll manage and all I'm worried about is being with you."
"Yeah same," he says. "Lyss I still feel shitty for cheating on you baby. I love you no matter what and it just hurts me that me and you aren't together anymore. So can I ask you something?"
"Yes anything," I said with anticipation.
"Will you be my girlfriend again?" He asked.
"Yes, yes I will," I said and gave him a kiss.
