So, he likes me, I guess. I like him too.
What does he want, though? Maybe I shouldn't look into it too much.
No, no, it's serious! It's so serious, especially because he mentioned he wouldn't date someone unless he thought he had found the one.
That means...
Huh.
I looked at him and smiled. "Nick, why are you driving me home?"
"I told you, I wouldn't let you have the chance to hurt yourself," he said, watching the road over the wheel. "I'll stay with you all night if I have to."
My heart fluttered in my chest. To hold my beautiful white rose in my hands, to see him there, still in his suit and tie, and to look down at the olive-green dress I was wearing that Millie had bought for me, telling me the colour contrasted my auburn hair gorgeously– it was everything.
I had almost forgotten Millie had called me. I wondered what she wanted to say. Maybe I had left a sweater at her place.
Nick turned his head to the side to see me more clearly. The moonlight glinted on his gorgeous face. "I think you lost our blushing game," he said, and smirked, readjusting his position.
That little comment only made me lose more.
We had little conversations here and there until he took me back to those same train tracks, intertwining my hand into his. We rushed in sync through the field. It was like any love story ever, and I think we both knew it.
Sure, it was cold, but the warmth in my chest and in my cheeks was what carried me.
We sat down on the grass.
"Can I tell you something?" he asked me.
I hesitated. "Whatever you want."
"I–" he turned my head. "It's a secret."
"What?" I asked. We were alone, so he could shout anything and it wouldn't be heard. He leaned in closer anyway, to whisper in my ear.
I think he could hear my heart beating in my throat from having him that close.
The only words I could hear from him were,
"Watch this."
He flipped a switch in his pocket and millions of string lights lit up the area around us, like fireflies. It wasn't too bright, but it was bright enough to see him beaming at me, still inches away from my face.
I stood up, admiring it all. It was truly beautiful. I wanted my wedding to be like this. He could have played music as well, but he didn't, because the sounds of the night were already so vibrant. It was ambient silence, but it was the greatest song in the world.
We could hear anything each other whispered, maybe even thought, so clearly in the quiet atmosphere.
A frog croaked, and fireflies lit up the distant lake it probably lived in.
He jumped to his feet with me. That was when the song started. Nat King Cole's voice wafted through what seemed like an open cage.
"M'lady," he said in a posh voice, and I leaped up, laughing. He took me by the hand and spun me around. Neither of us knew how to dance, and it was obvious. Neither of us cared, either.
He spun me, and brought me close, and spun me again. We danced in small circles, leaping through the dewy grass. My insecurities flew away with the wind.
Each time he took me close, I thought we would kiss then and there. Eventually, I was swept close to him. "Look up," he whispered.
There was the mistletoe.
"It's not Christmas," I whispered, smiling.
"Can we only kiss at Christmas?"
There was a split second, a second where there was nothing in the world except him and me. The fairy lights reflecting in his eyes and on his cheeks, dancing as joyfully as we did together. My heart leapt. The music surrounded us.
"L~ is for the way you look at me..."
And then, the gap between our lips was gone.
It was like every romance story or movie ever described, and it was the greatest feeling in the world. His hands found their way around my waist, and I couldn't get closer. It was gentle, but I realised I was so in love, and all of the love was for him. I wanted to show him just how much I loved him, and how much he loved me.
We broke when we couldn't breathe anymore. "Was that good?" he asked me. His eyes darted around my face.
"Hmmm... no."
His face fell.
"I think I'm gonna need another one to make up for it..." I continued, and I let my hands clasp behind his neck.
I had never kissed before, and neither had he, but we could tell we both knew what we were doing. I had practised on my hand or my phone screen plenty of times.
There was so much love communicated in that moment.
"V~ is very very, extraordinary, E~ is even more than anyone that you adore can..."
I couldn't stop looking at him. He couldn't stop looking at me.
"So, um, you're my girlfriend now, right? Like, not pretend anymore?"
"Are you kidding?"
He paused for a second. "No?"
I laughed, and shoved my head onto his chest. "You're amazing, Nick."
I think, if we got married that day, I would be happy for the rest of my life. We both laughed hysterically.
"Man, I'm so glad that worked because this took a ton of time to set this up," he said.
Everything was finally right. Nick felt the same way I did, and he was going to help me through any insecurity I had. Alyssa found someone who loved her as much as Nick loved me.

Now, why would I be sorry about that, do you think?
