Miaka’s heart raced as she followed the man through the crowded streets of Konan, her eyes desperately scanning the throngs of people for any sign of him. The man who had helped them—who had saved them from the thieves—was now nowhere to be found. She pushed through the bustling crowd, trying to catch a glimpse of him, but it was no use.
Where did he go? Miaka thought, her frustration growing. I need to find him.
She took a sharp turn around a corner, and to her dismay, the alleyway was completely empty. She stopped, breathless, her hands trembling slightly. The busy streets of Konan felt so distant now, and all she could hear was the sound of her own footsteps echoing against the stone walls.
“Where are you?” she murmured, just above a whisper.
As she stood there, trying to gather her bearings, a voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
“Well, well. What do we have here?”
Miaka froze. She turned to see a group of rough-looking men emerge from the shadows, blocking the exit to the alley. There were four of them, each one eyeing her like a predator watching its prey.
“Looks like we’ve found something... valuable,” one of the men sneered. The others chuckled, moving closer.
Miaka’s heart raced. No, no, not again!
She backed away, trying to distance herself from the men, but they closed in, their grins widening. She could feel their hands reaching out to grab her, and panic surged through her chest.
But just as one of the men lunged at her, there was a sudden blur of motion—a figure darting from the shadows. In the blink of an eye, the men were knocked aside as though they were nothing more than ragdolls.
Miaka gasped in surprise as the stranger—the one who had saved her before—stood before her, his eyes focused, his body poised like a warrior. The men were quickly disarmed and scattered, retreating into the darkness with cries of frustration.
Tamahome turned to Miaka, his expression softening as he surveyed her shaken form.
“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice steady and calm, the weight of his presence reassuring.
Miaka nodded quickly, still in shock. “Th-thank you… You saved me again.”
Tamahome gave a small nod, his gaze softening. “It’s nothing. I’ve got your back.”
But then, his eyes narrowed in thought, and he seemed to hesitate for a moment.
“You’re alone?” he asked, his brow furrowing slightly. “Where are your friends? Yui and Isuna?”
Miaka blinked, caught off guard. “You... You remember them?”
Tamahome’s lips quirked into a small smile. “Of course I do. I helped all three of you earlier, remember? You were the ones being chased by those thieves.”
Miaka's eyes widened in realization. "That’s right. I... I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. You saved us before, all three of us…"
Tamahome crossed his arms and looked at her with a hint of amusement. “You’re with them, right? Yui and Isuna, I mean. Where are they? I figured you’d all be together.”
Miaka shook her head, her voice trembling with frustration. “I don’t know! I—I can’t find them. I was just following you because I thought you could help me! I’m... I’m so lost. I don’t know where they are, and I don’t know what’s going on. I need to find them!”
Tamahome’s expression shifted, a quiet understanding passing through his eyes. He paused for a moment before speaking.
“I understand,” he said, his tone firm. “But we can’t waste time. If they’re in danger, we need to move fast.”
Miaka nodded, her determination returning. “Please… I need to find them. Can you help me?”
Tamahome gave a reassuring nod. “Of course. I won’t let anything happen to you, Miaka. Let’s go. We’ll search for them together.”
With that, the two of them quickly set off through the streets of Konan. As they walked, Miaka felt a small spark of hope. She wasn’t alone anymore. With Tamahome’s help, maybe—just maybe—she could find Yui and Isuna and get back to the world she knew.
