As night blanketed the city of Konan, the palace dining hall glowed softly with the warm light of paper lanterns. Emperor Hotohori had provided rooms for Miaka and Tamahome, and a palace maid soon arrived to invite them to dinner. Miaka’s stomach grumbled, her face lighting up with excitement.“Food!” she exclaimed, eagerly following the maid, practically bouncing with each step. Tamahome followed her at a more cautious pace, his eyes scanning the intricately decorated corridors and halls, each one a testament to the wealth and elegance of the Konan Empire.
When they reached the dining hall, Miaka’s jaw dropped. The table was adorned with beautifully arranged dishes—steaming rice, savory meats, fresh vegetables, and an assortment of colorful sweets. She could barely contain herself as the delicious aroma filled her senses.
“Wow... this is incredible!” Miaka’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she quickly filled her plate.
Tamahome chuckled at her enthusiasm, grabbing some food for himself. “Try to keep it together, Miaka,” he teased, though he, too, was impressed by the lavish meal.
Just then, the doors opened, and Hotohori entered with a graceful stride, his regal presence filling the room. He gave a polite nod, his elegant features framed by the soft candlelight. Though he had arrived late, he instantly commanded their attention.
“Please, don’t let my presence disrupt your meal,” he said with a gentle smile. “I apologize for the delay; there were matters that required my attention.” He took his seat at the head of the table, his movements calm and composed.
“It’s so good!” Miaka said, unable to hide her joy. “Thank you, Hotohori!”
Hotohori’s gaze softened as he observed her enthusiasm. “I am pleased to hear that, Miaka. I want you to feel welcome in Konan.”
They continued their meal in comfortable silence, until Hotohori turned to Miaka, his expression thoughtful. “Earlier, Miaka, you mentioned two friends who were with you before you arrived in this world. Yui and… Isuna, was it?”
Miaka’s smile faded slightly as she thought about her friends. “Yes… Yui and Isuna were with me when we first… came here. But somehow, I got separated from them, and I don’t know where they are.”
Hotohori’s face reflected both sympathy and contemplation. “If they mean so much to you, we will do everything we can to help you find them. However, finding people in this vast land can be challenging.” He paused for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts. “There is someone… a wise being named Taiitsukun. She resides on Mt. Taikyoku, a place where few can reach. It is said that Taiitsukun has incredible knowledge and may hold the answers you seek.”
“Taiitsukun?” Miaka repeated, her eyes widening with a mix of curiosity and hope.
“Yes,” Hotohori continued, “She resides with the Nyan-Nyans, beautiful spirit beings who are her attendants. However, those with evil intentions are said to see only cold, empty cliffs when they seek her out. Taiitsukun possesses a wisdom that transcends the ages. If anyone can guide us, it would be her.”
Miaka’s eyes sparkled with newfound hope. “Thank you, Hotohori! I’ll do whatever it takes to find my friends… even if it means going all the way to Mt. Taikyoku!”
Hotohori nodded, his expression resolute. “It is not an easy journey, but with the will of Suzaku, perhaps your paths will cross again.”
Touched by his kindness and reassurances, Miaka offered a grateful smile. As they continued their meal, her heart filled with determination. She silently promised herself that she would find her friends, no matter what lay ahead.
