Miaka drifted in and out of restless dreams, memories of her past entangling with her fears. She saw herself walking through the school courtyard with Yui, the two of them laughing under a sunlit sky, arms linked as they promised to always stand by each other. Isuna was there too, her gentle smile and quiet strength grounding them both. Their trio had always been inseparable, a bond that seemed unbreakable. Yet, as shadows seeped into the dream, Miaka found herself reaching out, only for Yui and Isuna to slip away into darkness.
She awoke with a gasp, blinking as her eyes adjusted to the dim glow of the room. The soft fabric of the sheets brushed against her skin, reminding her she was safe. Looking to her side, she saw Tamahome beside her, his chest rising and falling in the even rhythm of sleep. They were both free from their previous injuries, yet the feeling of unease lingered in her heart.
The door creaked open, and Chichiri entered, followed by Taiitsukun and the Nyan-Nyans. Taiitsukun's wise gaze fell on Miaka, her expression a mixture of compassion and seriousness. "Miaka, you're awake. We were worried about you, no da," Chichiri said with a soft smile.
Miaka sat up, pulling the sheets closer around her as she glanced at Tamahome, who was just beginning to stir. Turning back to Taiitsukun, she spoke with urgency, "Thank you... but I need to know what happened to Yui-and to Isuna, too. I haven't seen her since we entered this world, and I'm afraid something terrible might have happened."
Taiitsukun's expression grew grave. "You seek answers, Miaka, and they are important to your heart. Come with me; there may be a way for you to see what has transpired."
She led Miaka, Tamahome, and Chichiri through winding corridors until they reached a large chamber. A towering mirror filled one wall, its surface shimmering with a mystical aura that seemed to pulse with life. "This is the Mirror of Reflection," Taiitsukun explained. "It records all that happens in this world-past, present, and glimpses of what is hidden. It may show you what became of your friends."
Miaka took a trembling step forward as the mirror's surface shifted, revealing an image of Yui, standing in a dark alley within Kutou. She was alone, her expression tense, glancing over her shoulder as she hurried through the shadowed streets. A group of men emerged, stalking her with malicious intent. Miaka's heart clenched as she watched Yui's desperate attempts to evade them. Her stomach turned when they finally caught her, pinning her to the ground, their hands tearing at her clothing.
Unable to bear it, Miaka's voice broke. "Please... stop." She turned away, eyes squeezed shut, as tears spilled down her cheeks. "It's my fault. Yui went through that because I couldn't protect her. I wasn't there."
Silence filled the chamber, heavy with the weight of Miaka's guilt. Taiitsukun placed a hand on her shoulder, her voice soft but firm. "Miaka, guilt will only hinder you. You must find the strength to continue. Yui's journey is her own, and though it has been painful, you still have the power to help her."
Miaka wiped her eyes, nodding, though the sadness lingered in her heart. "What about Isuna? Can you show me where she is?"
Taiitsukun hesitated, glancing at the mirror before gesturing to it once more. "The mirror may reveal her whereabouts, but what you see may not bring you peace."
Steeling herself, Miaka stepped forward again. The mirror shifted once more, and this time, Miaka saw Isuna. Her friend was encased in what appeared to be a massive chamber of ice, her figure barely visible through the thick, crystalline walls. Isuna's eyes were closed, her face serene yet pale, as if she had fallen into a deep, unnatural slumber. Frost covered her hair and clothes, her hands frozen just inches away from the surface, as if she'd tried to reach out before succumbing to the cold.
Miaka gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "Isuna... What happened to her? Why is she like this?"
Taiitsukun's expression grew troubled, and for a moment, it seemed as if she, too, didn't have an answer. "I am unsure, Miaka. This chamber is unlike any magic I've seen in this world. It's as if she's been put there deliberately, suspended between life and death. Whoever did this holds a magic far older than anything wielded by Kutou or Konan."
Chichiri placed a comforting hand on Miaka's shoulder, his own expression serious. "Isuna must be under a powerful spell, no da. Whoever put her there likely wanted to keep her hidden and unreachable."
Tamahome clenched his fists, his voice tense with worry. "If we don't find a way to free her, she could be trapped in there forever."
Miaka's heart twisted painfully. Her oldest friends-Yui, haunted by her suffering, and Isuna, locked away in a frozen prison with no way to reach them. She felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness, a longing to bring them both back safely.
"But why would anyone do this to her?" Miaka asked, her voice barely a whisper. "Isuna... she was always so kind, so gentle. She didn't deserve this."
Taiitsukun shook her head slowly. "I do not know why she was targeted, but this chamber of ice suggests that her connection to this world may be more complex than we thought. You must be cautious, Miaka. There may be forces at play here beyond the reach of any of us."
Miaka took a deep breath, fighting to keep her resolve steady. "Then we'll find a way to break this spell. I won't leave Isuna or Yui behind."
Taiitsukun nodded approvingly. "Very well. But remember, Miaka, to help them, you must first be strong enough to face what lies ahead."
Turning to Tamahome and Chichiri, Miaka clenched her fists. "We're going to free them, no matter what it takes. Yui, Isuna... they're still waiting for us. And I won't let them down."
As they left the chamber, Miaka's mind remained on Isuna's frozen figure, her heart aching with determination and sorrow. Whatever dark power had entrapped her friend, Miaka vowed to unravel its secrets and bring her friends back to the warmth of freedom.
