Miaka looked into Tamahome’s eyes, her heart full. "I came back for you," she whispered, and before either of them could say another word, they leaned in, sharing a kiss that conveyed all the longing and devotion they’d held back for so long.
Their moment was interrupted by the sound of a familiar voice. "Well, aren’t you two cozy?" Yui’s voice was light, her tone feigning cheerfulness as she entered the room. She plastered on a smile, her eyes not quite meeting Miaka’s. "We can leave now," she said, giving Miaka a little nudge. "But first, could you come with me? There’s something I want to show you."
Miaka glanced back at Tamahome, who looked concerned, but she gave him a reassuring nod. “I’ll be back in a moment,” she promised him.
Yui led her through the winding hallways of the palace until they came to a tall, imposing doorway. The torches flickered dimly around the entrance, casting shadows that danced across the blue stone walls. Miaka felt a chill run down her spine as she looked up at the engraved plaque that read: Shrine of Seiryu.
"Yui… are you sure we should be here?" Miaka asked, her voice uneasy.
But Yui’s only response was a slight smirk. She stepped into the shrine, and Miaka followed, unaware of the barrier sealing behind them. Outside, Tamahome and Chichiri reached the entrance, only to be met with an invisible wall of energy.
"What the—" Tamahome pressed his hands against the barrier, panic flaring in his eyes as he realized he couldn’t break through. "Miaka’s in there!"
Chichiri closed his eyes, sensing the magic at play. "It’s a barrier preventing Suzaku warriors from entering, no da," he murmured. "Someone powerful is keeping us out."
Inside the shrine, Miaka glanced around, feeling the atmosphere grow heavy. She turned to Yui, confusion in her eyes. "Yui… what is this? Why did you bring me here?"
Yui’s mask of cheerfulness faded, her eyes darkening. “You really don’t understand, do you?” She laughed, a bitter, hollow sound. "Miaka, you abandoned me. You came back into this world, but it wasn’t for me. It was for Tamahome.”
Miaka’s heart dropped. She took a step toward her friend, reaching out. "Yui, that’s not true! I came back for you too. I wanted to find you and Isuna—to make sure you were both safe.”
"Isuna?" Yui’s voice cracked slightly at the mention of her name, but she quickly composed herself, narrowing her eyes. “Isuna is gone. She was taken from me, just like everything else. And you think you can waltz back in here, pretend you care, and take Tamahome from me?”
"Yui, please—" Miaka’s words were cut short as a familiar figure stepped out from the shadows.
Nakago’s cold, calculating gaze met hers. Without warning, he raised his hand, and a powerful force slammed Miaka back against the shrine door. She cried out, struggling to free herself as the pressure grew, pinning her in place.
"Miaka!" Tamahome’s voice echoed from the other side of the barrier, his fists pounding against it in desperation. He could feel her pain, and with every moment, his resolve only strengthened.
Chichiri closed his eyes, summoning all his power as he teleported himself through the barrier, arriving just in time to see Miaka trapped against the door. He lunged forward, grabbing her wrist and pulling her free, shielding her from Nakago’s assault.
Nakago turned his cold gaze on Chichiri, unimpressed. “Do you think you can protect her?” he sneered.
Outside, Tamahome’s determination grew, fueled by his love for Miaka. Gathering his strength, he pushed against the barrier with all his might, feeling it weaken under the force of his will. With one final burst, he broke through, the sheer power of his emotions shattering the magical boundary.
Tamahome ran to Miaka’s side, pulling her close. He looked at Yui, his expression softening. "Yui, you’re coming with us. You don’t belong here.”
Yui’s eyes wavered for a moment, but Nakago’s voice cut through her hesitation. "Do you really think she cares for you as much as you care for her?” His hand gripped her scarred wrist, reminding her of the pain she’d endured.
Yui swallowed, her gaze hardening as she looked back at her friends. "No," she whispered, pulling her wrist free from Nakago. "Go, Miaka. You and Tamahome… you don’t need me here."
Chichiri took off his hat and held it out, the magic swirling within it, ready to transport them to safety. With a heavy heart, Miaka took one last look at Yui. Her words caught in her throat, but she knew Yui had made her choice.
In an instant, Chichiri’s spell transported them away, leaving Yui standing alone in the Shrine of Seiryu beside Nakago. As the shadows closed in around her, she gripped her scarred wrist tightly, her mind a storm of emotions, yet one thought stood out among the chaos—Miaka had Isuna, her friend, her protector, and the reminder of everything she had lost.
