The next day, Joong and Dunk’s close friends started to notice something different about them. Gemini, ever the keen observer, was the first to pick up on the subtle changes: the way Dunk’s gaze lingered on Joong a moment too long, the occasional, accidental touch between them that spoke louder than words.
One afternoon, while the group was sitting in the campus courtyard, Gemini nudged Joong with a knowing grin. “So, you and Dunk seem closer than ever. Anything you want to share?”
Joong’s face heated up, and he stammered, trying to find the right words. Dunk, overhearing, just laughed, sliding an arm around Joong’s shoulders with an ease that seemed almost second nature.
“Let’s just say we’ve come to an understanding,” Dunk replied, his tone teasing but affectionate.
Phuwin arched an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “An understanding, huh? Does that mean we’ll be seeing you two walking around campus, holding hands and all?”
Joong felt his cheeks burn, but Dunk only tightened his grip, his grin widening. “Why not?” he said, throwing a wink at Joong.
The group erupted in laughter and playful teasing, but Joong could feel their genuine support beneath the jokes. Their friends, though loud and a little nosy, accepted them fully, making Joong feel more at ease with this new relationship he was exploring.
Later that evening, Joong found himself alone with Pond, his oldest friend and confidant. They walked along the quiet path leading back to their dorms, the faint sounds of crickets filling the air.
Pond glanced over at Joong, his expression thoughtful. “You know, I’ve never seen you like this. Happier.”
Joong hesitated, unsure of how to put his emotions into words. “It’s just… different with Dunk. He’s...”
Pond nodded knowingly. “He makes you feel alive. That’s a good thing, Joong. Just... be careful, alright? Not because I think he’ll hurt you, but because I don’t want to see you get lost in this.”
Joong smiled, appreciating Pond’s concern. “I know. But I think this is worth the risk.”
Pond gave him a reassuring pat on the back, his expression soft. “Then go for it. You deserve happiness, Joong. And maybe Dunk’s the one who can give it to you.”
As they parted ways, Joong felt a newfound resolve to settle within him. His feelings for Dunk were real, and for the first time, he allowed himself to imagine a future that included the two of them together, embracing whatever challenges came their way.
