As the weeks rolled on, Dunk and Joong found their rhythm. The small moments—shared coffees, late-night study sessions, and casual touches—felt like language only they understood. The bond between them deepened, and with it, a growing anticipation of where their relationship might lead.
One Friday night, as the city buzzed with nightlife, Joong invited Dunk to a party hosted by one of their mutual friends. Dunk felt a mix of excitement and anxiety; parties were often chaotic, and he wasn’t sure how to navigate his new relationship in a social setting.
“Come on, it’ll be fun!” Joong said, his enthusiasm infectious. “Plus, I want to show you off.”
Dunk laughed nervously, feeling a warmth spread through him. “Show me off.”
“Yeah! My amazing boyfriend,” Joong replied, his tone teasing but genuine. “Besides, it’ll be good for you to let loose a little. You need to meet new people.”
The thought of being labeled as Joong’s boyfriend sent a thrill through Dunk, though it also made his heart race with uncertainty. He agreed and soon found himself getting ready in front of the mirror, fighting back his self-doubt. He chose a simple black shirt and jeans, hoping to appear effortlessly stylish.
When Joong picked him up, Dunk was taken aback by how handsome Joong looked—his hair tousled, a casual jacket draped over his shoulders, and that mischievous glint in his eyes.
“You clean up nice,” Joong grinned, and Dunk felt himself blush.
At the party, the atmosphere was electric. Music pumped through the speakers, laughter echoed in the air, and the scent of various snacks filled Dunk’s senses. He felt a little overwhelmed but was comforted by Joong’s presence beside him.
As they made their way through the crowd, Joong introduced Dunk to several of his friends. Dunk was surprised by how welcoming everyone was, quickly feeling a part of Joong’s world. Their friends exchanged playful banter, and Joong never left Dunk’s side, keeping his hand on the small of Dunk’s back, grounding him amidst the chaos.
“Let’s get a drink,” Joong suggested, leading Dunk toward the kitchen area. They stood by the counter, laughing over shared stories, and Dunk felt the warmth of familiarity enveloping them.
As the night wore on, the party started to change. People paired off into quieter corners, and the music shifted to a more intimate vibe. Dunk found himself drawn into a conversation with Gemini and Fourth, who were discussing relationships in a lighthearted yet serious manner.
“You know, it’s refreshing to see you two together,” Fourth said, a smile on his face. “It’s nice to see Joong finally settle down with someone as amazing as you.”
Dunk felt his heart race at the compliment, but he also sensed the weight behind their words. “It’s still new for us,” he said, glancing at Joong, who was animatedly chatting with some friends nearby. “We’re just figuring things out.”
Gemini leaned closer, his expression earnest. “Just make sure you communicate. Relationships can get tricky if you don’t talk about what you want.”
Dunk nodded, grateful for their support. “I’m learning that. I’ve never been in a relationship before.”
“Joong is a handful, but he means well,” Fourth added with a chuckle. “He’s just been waiting for the right person to come along.”
Dunk felt a flutter of happiness at the thought. He wanted to be that person for Joong.
Just then, Joong returned, holding two cups of something colorful. “I brought you a drink! It’s a signature cocktail—trust me, you’re going to love it!”
As Dunk took a sip, he couldn’t help but smile at Joong’s enthusiasm. They began to chat again, but as the night progressed, Dunk noticed a change in Joong. He seemed distracted, occasionally glancing around the room, his expression shifting to one of unease.
“Hey, are you alright?” Dunk asked, concern creeping into his voice.
Joong sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I’m fine. It’s just... sometimes, when I’m at these parties, I feel like everyone’s watching me. Like they’re judging who I’m with.”
Dunk’s heart sank. “You think they’re judging me?”
“No, not you. I mean, maybe. I just—” Joong hesitated, his vulnerability shining through. “I’m not good at this. I want to be proud to be with you, but I get worried about what everyone thinks. It’s stupid, right?”
Dunk shook his head, reaching out to hold Joong’s hand. “It’s not stupid. It’s normal to worry about how others perceive you. But I’m here with you. I’m proud to be with you.”
Joong met Dunk’s gaze, and for a moment, the noise of the party faded away. “Really?”
“Really. I like you, Joong. A lot. And I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I just want to be here with you.”
Joong’s face softened, and he leaned in closer, their foreheads almost touching. “You have no idea how much that means to me.”
At that moment, everything felt perfect. The chaos of the party faded, and it was just the two of them, standing in their own little bubble. But as Dunk leaned in for a kiss, they were interrupted by a loud cheer from the crowd, breaking the intimacy of their moment.
“Come on, you two! Join us!” Gemini called out, waving them over to the center of the living room, where a game was about to begin.
Dunk and Joong exchanged amused glances, the tension of the previous conversation dissipating into laughter. They joined their friends, but Dunk couldn’t shake the feeling that they had just crossed an invisible line together. The kiss would have to wait for another moment.
