No Easy Way Out

Chapter 21

Back in Montana, Beth was at her office at Highlands Financial looking over a few things on her laptop when she noticed that she had gotten an email.

"I wonder what this is," she muttered to herself as she went over to her email inbox & checked it out.

It turned out to be some information from someone who knew a lot about Thomas Hendricks-Smith & his business practices. Beth was in shock.

"Fuck," she whispered as she read through the lengthy email. What was in it blew her mind.

As she continued to read it, Beth knew that she needed to talk to someone about it, & she knew just the person.

Her childhood friend & Highlands Financial colleague Doug Fairchild. She knew that he would listen to her.

After texting him, he was in her office right away.

"You need to see this, Dougie," said Beth as she led him to her laptop.

"Is this it, Beth?" He asked as he sat down near her desk after she had turned her laptop around so he could see the email.

"That's the one," said Beth.

Doug read it carefully & found himself in shock just like Beth was.

"This is fucking insane, Beth," said Doug. "Who in their right mind would email you information on Hendricks-Smith & his ties to Market Equalities?"

"I don't know, Dougie, but I'm honestly glad they did," said Beth. "Now my family & I have what we need to get that snotty smug fucker out of here & away from the ranch."

"I wouldn't be so sure about that, Beth," said Doug.

"Why do you say that, Dougie?" Asked Beth.

"Just because you have the information doesn't mean that Hendricks-Smith is going to stop trying to destroy your family," said Doug. "What if he goes after your father?"

"Then I'm going to fuck him over like I have to other pussies throughout my career," said Beth angrily. "He has no idea what I'm personally capable of."

"Maybe not, but he probably doesn't give a shit," said Doug. "He will always be a step ahead of you & your family."

"You do have a good point there, Dougie," said Beth.

"I know, & I only said what I said is because you are my sister, & I love you to pieces," said Doug. "I also don't want you getting in over your head here."

"Now when have I ever done that, brother?" Asked Beth with a smirk.

"Many times, sis. Many times," he said laughing which caused Beth to laugh as well.

"Thanks for hearing me out, Dougie," said Beth with a smile.

"You're welcome, & give Sophia lots of love for me, OK?' He said. Beth nodded, hugged him, & he was headed off to his office.

Once she printed off the email so that John could read it when she got back to the ranch, Beth felt nervous yet excited.

She couldn't wait to reveal what she had found out.

She just hoped that there would be no trouble while she was doing that.
