motherhood | part 21

"Da-eun, please- PLEASE, be my makeup artist for tomorrow?" 

Da-eun's food tray meets the ground with a shrill sound and the whole cafeteria goes quiet. She gaps at me as everyone gap at us. 
"YOU WANT ME TO BE WHAT?!" 

Jesus Christ, why does she have to be so loud? "Pick your tray, stop overreacting bitch" I say between my gritted teeth.
"Oh my god- Omo, MY GIRL IS IN LOVE!" Her arms wrap around me in a tight hug.
"Stop- you're choking m-me--"

"With who?" Someone from the crowd asks. People need to learn to mind their own business. 
Before Da-eun can say anything I stuff bread in her mouth. She mumbles which makes no sense. 

"Joe Mama" My sarcasm brings a frown to the crowd. I drag Da-eun to a table away from attention. 
"Gonna be near your caravan tomorrow at 5 pm sharp, and please get your autism diagnosed." She blinks at me dumbfoundedly as I leave. 

I am thinking of going to the storeroom; hoping to find Lix there. I don't text him; blame my low-esteem personality for it.
On the way, I have to double-check before climbing down the stairs.

It's Jennie with Mr Sim from earlier standing at the top of the stairs... The news that Jennie and her other friends (who were involved in bullying) were suspended had been spread like a rapid-fire through the group chat. 
She must be persuading Mr. Sim, but something catches my attention.

"I mean- it'd be better if you keep an eye on Chae-ryo."
Her whispers are loud enough. I gulp and stay behind a wall to hear the rest of the bullshit.

"I found it odd too when Mstr. Lee named Ms. Park as the most trustworthy without hesitation- can you tell me if he is getting engaged in things not allowed for him?"

"He hangs out with Park Chae-ryo all the time. Also- not to mention, they're prom partners for tomorrow; I'm not gaslighting, but as far as I know- Park Chae-ryo is a gold digger-"

"Well, in fact- that's the other way around." 

It's a new voice. Not for me though. I already have his voice engraved deep in my guts. 
"Weren't you planning to cross your line and ask me out, Park Jennie?" I peek to find him standing at the foot of the stairs.

Jennie gaps- while Mr. Sim looks back and fro between them. "Is it true?" 
"Of course- not. I mean... I wouldn't...- I can't-" 
"I have proof." 

Silence of speechlessness for 10 seconds straight. Then-
"Mr. Sim I don't appreciate you investigating about my personal life without my consent- even if you do, please don't believe every word any random slut says." 

I have to cover my mouth to prevent my burst of laughter. I knew Seungmin was savage, but Felix- damn. 
Jennie scoffs as I hear footsteps descending. 

Butterflies. Butterflies. Butterflies. 
What else does a woman need if her man is this protective?

(TIME SKIP TO HOME) 

I almost think no one is home but then I find mom in my room. Two boxes from the boutique are placed on my bed. The prom dresses!
Mom looks at me with a look of betrayal. Oh no not again, please I was just getting better.

"Prier Boutique? Seriously? Even when I told you not to-" 
I interrupt before her voice gets too loud, "We bought this before..."
"We? WE?! Did you pay for it?"
"No, but I'll-"
"Payback? How could even think we could pay back such an amount- that too for such stupid dresses like these?"

She ruffles the lilac one harshly before throwing it across the room- "On top of it- TWO OF 'EM," her scoff is filled with hatred, "Right, that faggot gotta dress up like a Barbie too-"
"MOM STOP!" 

She has crossed the limits now. No tears emerge this time. Just rage. "He- He is way better than all of you," 
"Oh yeah? We'll see about that when he dumps you." Mom walks past bumping me hard on the shoulder, "Dare set foot outside tomorrow and you'll face the consequences." 

Am cooked.

"You will be the best mother to exist" 
That just made my day.
