Chapter 16

I arrived at the place we were supposed to meet which was this local coffee shop that we use to go to together.

I walked in and Gabe was already standing in line. He saw me and gave me a smile. I came up next to him in line and he tried giving me a hug which I avoided."I'm really glad you could make it." He said cheerfully.

I didn't say anything back.

We got up to the counter and ordered our drinks. I pulled out my wallet so I could pay but Gabe lightly tucked my hand down."Hey I got it." He said to me while giving his credit card to the cashier.

I rolled my eyes at him."Thanks." I said coldly. I didn't appreciate how he was trying to flattered me.

We got our drinks and took a seat at a table next to a window."Well I'm just gonna cut to the chase." He said has soon has we sat down.

He took my hand and he had a sad look on his face."I miss you Beth," He started out,"I'm sorry that I cheated on you after four years of marriage. I was stupid for hurting you like this. I want to spend the rest of my life with and I'm begging you to please take me back." He finished his little speech.

I was left with no words for a moment. I had loved this man almost all my life and here he was wanting me back.I looked around the coffee shop nervously trying to find the words to say. Finally after a bit, I pulled my hands away from Gabe's grasp and dug into my purse. I pulled out divorce papers and laid them in front of him. His face turned into shock when he looked at the papers. I cleared my throat," I forgive you Gabe for cheating on me......but I'm not taking you back." I afirmed him.

"Here," handing him a pen,"I already signed it so you just need to sign it."

He took the pen and he signed it without another word. He handed me back the paper and the pen. I slowly got up from table and made my way to the door."Wait." Gabe grabbed my arm and pulled me back.

I turned around."What?" I asked bitterlily.

"Can you look into my eyes and tell me what you see....please..?" He asked desperately.

"Fine." I replied.

I look straight into his eyes.They weren't has eccentric has Rhett were. Gabe's eyes were more lifeless and dull has Rhett were more lively and bright. "Here is what I see." I told him.

Gabe smiled hopefully."I see a man who I onced love and gave everything to. However he hurt me deeply and now he wants me back. It's too late now, I found someone else who when I look into his eyes he teaches me how to love again......" My voice trailed off.

Gabe smiled faded. I took my ring off and placed it into his hand.I looked back up him,"Goodbye Gabe." I told him.

I turned around and walked quickly out of the coffee shop. I go into the car and sighed. I finally felt free nothing was holding me back. I started the car and headed to the studio. I needed to talk to Rhett.
