Wednesday February 14,2024 (valentines day🩷)The air felt heavier this morning as I sat in my car, staring at the empty passenger seat. Sky had barely spoken to me all week, and I understood why. Every call I made went unanswered, and every message she responded to felt cold, like she was holding back on purpose.
It all came back to what happened a few days ago when my ex popped up unannounced. I'd never been so caught off guard in my life, and the look on Sky's face that day was burned into my memory.
All a diss because a one a phone call that lead to sex then lead to a instagram post.
should a Neva call har ova mi yard inna the first place. We hadn't even talked about it properly. It just never came up, And now she thought I was responsible for something I had no control over. Her distance wasn't hard to figure out.
Still, I wasn't about to let things stay this way. It was Valentine's Day, and I wanted to make it up to her. If nothing else, I needed her to know how much she meant to me.
The first step was calling her sister, Niyoka.
"Hello?" she answered, her voice bright as usual.
"Wah gwan just a call fi ask if sky deh home?"
"Yes, she inna har room. Why?" she asked, clearly intrigued.
I hesitated for a moment, then exhaled. "Cyah get a hold har from wah day yah," I admitted. "Anuh like seh mi nuh know why, and I get it, but it's Valentine's Day, and I want to do something special for her. I'm going to ask her to be my girlfriend."
There was silence for a beat before she squealed loudly into the phone. "yes! I am all for this idea! Yuh need help wid anything?"
"No nuh really just wah mek sure she nuh find buh excuse fi hide mi out," I joked.
She laughed. "She nave nun plan today, not that I know of, plus we won't be home today. You'll have the house to yourselves. I'll let the security know to expect you."
"Ahh thanks, I appreciate it."
"Yuh nah fi thank mi ," she replied. "Just make her happy."
With her blessing, I started planning.
First stop was Bijoux in New Kingston. I wasn't sure where to start, but her sister had sent me Sky's ring size after the call ended, so I decided on a Pandora ring. It was simple yet elegant, and I hoped it would be enough to make her smile.
After that, I went shopping for other gifts. Her sister had given me a list of things she loved—her favorite perfume, a cozy blanket, etc. I grabbed everything she recommended, trusting her judgment.
Once I had everything, I bought a gift basket and carefully arranged the items inside. The finished product looked impressive, even to me. For the first time in days, I felt a spark of hope.
