Chapter 98: The Siblings Arc

Chaeyoung stormed out of the Chairman's office. As she turned the corner, she nearly collided with Tzuyu. Without a second thought, Chaeyoung grabbed Tzuyu by the collar, slamming her against the wall.

"Don't fuck with me, Tzuyu. Did you know?" she demanded.

Tzuyu met her gaze, unflinching. "I know."

"Did Sana know?" Chaeyoung pressed, her grip tightening.

"No," Tzuyu answered quietly.

"Why? I thought you were my friend."

Tzuyu's face remained impassive, but there was a coldness in her eyes. "I am the Chairman's adoptive daughter. We were never friends, Chaeyoung. I was ordered to supervise you."

Chaeyoung's anger flared, and with a disgusted snarl, she released Tzuyu, pushing her away. "Spend the rest of your life making up for these lies," she spat before walking away, leaving Tzuyu standing there.

Chaeyoung couldn't bring herself to step into the house, knowing Mina was waiting for her. She lingered a few meters away from the mansion, her mind clouded with guilt and uncertainty, before making the decision to drive off. Eventually, she found herself stranded in a park, aimlessly wandering as the hours passed. She didn't know what to do with herself, and the thought of facing Mina terrified her. She felt lost.

As she walked, she saw families and children, and for a moment, she wondered how different her life would have been if she had come from a normal family. She wished she could turn back time, undoing her mistakes and the desperate need for attention that had led her to make terrible choices. Now, all she could do was think about her past actions and Mina.

The memories came flooding back, especially one from five years ago. She had been set to meet the founder of a shoe brand, the same company she had ruined with her schemes. She remembered his voice, desperate for help. He mentioned his daughter, needing financial support, and how he was willing to explain the legal issues that had caused the company's downfall. He didn't know it was Chaeyoung who had set it all up to take over the company.

That night, things took a turn. She had argued with her father before heading to meet the founder, but she never made it. She was in a car accident. It was there she met Nayeon, and the crash caused brain trauma that put her in the hospital for weeks. During that time, everything about her business schemes, including the founder and the project, slipped from her mind. She was overwhelmed with guilt for hurting Nayeon, and in the chaos, she forgot about everything else.

Chaeyoung stayed at the park until night, her phone ringing with calls from Mina, but she couldn't answer. The thought of hearing Mina's voice made her feel like she might break down. Instead, she texted Mina, saying she had something urgent to attend to and wouldn't be home for a couple of days. Mina didn't press her for answers, just accepted it.

For the next few days, Chaeyoung holed up in a hotel, avoiding everything and locking herself away, too scared to face the world outside. It wasn't until she received a text from Momo telling her that Mina had fallen ill that Chaeyoung rushed home. She was surprised to find Mina and some of the Hirai family members greeting her with a small party—it was supposed to be their wedding anniversary.

But Mina didn't expect Chaeyoung to look so disheveled and exhausted. Concerned, she quickly approached Chaeyoung and apologized for the party, worried that it might have disturbed her work. Momo stepped in, mentioning it was her idea, and questioned Chaeyoung about the urgent matter that had kept her away from the Hirai company for days. Chaeyoung didn't know how to explain and instead apologized for forgetting their anniversary before heading to change into something more presentable.
