Chapter 100-102: The Past Arc

[backstory]

Kim Jun (Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung's father) and Yoo Iseul (Jeongyeon's mother) was a couple in college, kept their relationship a secret from others. However, everything changed when Lia, an international student from Japan, befriended them and developed a crush on Jun. Jun, ambitious but poor, had once met Lia's father, a successful businessman, The Son Group Chairman at an event, where the Chairman subtly suggested Jun could be his son-in-law, especially because of the affection his daughter had towards him.

Jun initially rejected the offer, dismissing it as unnecessary, but after facing setbacks—his project being stolen by someone with connections, and Iseul losing her scholarship funded by Lia's father—he realized he needed support to survive in the world.

Desperate, Jun agreed to marry Lia, on the condition that the Chairman would support Iseul and never interfere with Iseul's life ever again. The Chairman agreed, though Lia was unaware of the arrangement. Soon after, Isuel was sent abroad for further studies, and Jun broke up with her without any explanation, not knowing Iseul was pregnant.

Years later, Jun now married to Lia, ran into Iseul while on an overseas work trip. Iseul revealed that Jun was the father of her child, and Jun began visiting her and his child regularly, especially after Iseul was diagnosed with cancer. Meanwhile, Lia gave birth to their daughter, Chaeyoung, but Jun became distant, unable to bond with her. Eventually, Iseul passed away, and Jun introduced Jeongyeon, his child with Iseul, to Lia and Chaeyoung.

Lia, devastated by the truth, fell into a deep depression and eventually took her own life. Lia's father, blaming Jun, attempted to kick him out, but Jun blackmailed him with sensitive company information—-The peninsular project, demanding to trade Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung's  future for his own as he took responsibility for the project investigation.

The chairman reluctantly agreed and took Jeongyeon into his care. Jun disappeared, becoming a gambler, and the chairman, despite disliking Jeongyeon, recognized her talent. He became harsher on Chaeyoung, pushing her to outperform Jeongyeon in every way, resenting Chaeyoung for being perceived as weaker.

Chaeyoung met her father that one night, after years of silence, when he showed up asking for money. She listened to his story and confronted him about whether he had ever truly loved her mother, Lia. Jun remained silent. Chaeyoung realized that she was never born out of love, but rather out of an obligation to have a child, ensuring the board of directors felt secure knowing the company had a successor.

Heartbroken by his indifference, Chaeyoung drove off in distress, leading to a car accident. During the chaos, she met Nayeon and missed an important meeting with Myoui Kousei.

Chapter 103-105: Cursed Honeymoon Arc

Chaeyoung sat on the couch, conflicted. The flight was in two hours, but she didn't know if she could just leave everything behind. What about the Hirai? She needed to explain things to them. And Jeongyeon—what was her plan? The Chairman wouldn't forgive her. The Im Group was in chaos, and there were so many loose ends to tie up. Could she really just walk away from all of it?

Chaeyoung stared at the tickets in her hand, her mind racing. She stood up and walked toward Mina, who was busy preparing dinner. Gently, she took Mina's hand, stopping her from cutting the vegetables, "We.....we haven't had our real honeymoon yet," Chaeyoung said, forcing a smile. "Why don't we have one in Switzerland? I've already prepared everything. We don't need to pack much, just the important documents. I've bought the tickets. We can leave right now."
