She tried to look around amidst the pitch black.
Smoke engulfed her senses and a staunch smell captured her mind.
I wish Rudra saw me once in my wedding attire and complimented me, before something happened. He would love his mother's saree on me.
Even in the face of adversity, she was thinking and remembering him. But she brushed her thoughts aside and brought her mind back to the present.
A fire had erupted in the basement.
Not that of fire and desire.
But of vengeance and revenge.
Of hatred and anger.
As she was trying to decipher what had happened, a shrill, bone chilling laughter caught her ears.
She turned around to face the source of the laugh. Even amidst the smoke, she saw a silhouette of a man standing there.
Rudra? No, it can't be him. Atleast, God, no, don't break me so bad. Please don't let it be him.
She couldn't mistake that same nose and almost similar facial features.
Rudra was a spitting image of his father. Except for the age related changes and wrinkles.
For a minute, she actually got confused and thought it was Rudra. But her doubts were cleared when she saw that evil smirk and heard his laughter.
"What have you done? Why did you ruin everything? Our story was a fairytale dream come true." She lashed out at him, unable to bear the pain tormenting her since time immemorial.
The man was standing in front of him, with a glass door separating them. She was locked inside while he stood out there, laughing at her misery.
She kept thrashing her arms on the door with full force, only for her pleas to fall on deaf ears. Her wedding bangles broke and fell, her wrists bled and her hands hurt like hell.
"Exactly why it had to be broken. Fairytales are never true." He replied in a cold, ruthless, spine chilling tone.
He trapped her in the basement of the deserted building, just one hour before her wedding.
“You are the daughter of my sole enemy. And the same blood runs in your veins even after all these years of his absence. I hate you and your entire bloodline and family. I will make sure your mother suffers too when you're gone.”
She writhed in pain but he showed no mercy. Obviously, she was doomed to die. And she was too tired to even think about the future or her mother's safety.
“What did you think? That I won't get to know about your plans? That all through these years, you were secretly collecting evidence against me? I got to know about your intentions of marrying into my family the day I saw how you had memorised the fast dial numbers in my office telephone.”
Kalyani recalled how some days ago she had gone to his office, to meet him. He asked him to call up his secretary and she had dialled his number at one go.
A big mistake. She hadn't realised how observant he was. She completely forgot how dangerous he was and how much sly he was; such a long standing player in politics whp wouldn't even care to get his son out of the way.
“And I know you trapped my son to get into my family and to get closer to me. Despite the fact that I always acted as a guardian to you, you were simply a snake in disguise. Infact, I didn't expect you to plot against me so well. However, you forgot that if you're the player, I'm the coach. You're a novice. You need more experience.”
