"What have you done? Why did you ruin everything? Our story was a fairytale dream come true."
She kept thrashing her arms on the door with full force, only for her pleas to fall on deaf ears. Her wedding bangles broke and fell, her wrists bled and h...
She was finishing off the last bit of the OPD patients, before the lunch break hours.
"Please explain your problem, sir." She gently examined the patient seated on her side chair.
"Doctor, I am having immense pain in my chest since this morning." The patient elaborated.
It was the same usual schedule for Kalyani. Now that she was pursuing her MD in Internal Medicine from the same institution, Banaras Hindu University.
She chose her alma mater BHU, because of the familiarity and ease in pursuing post graduation here. And she would be a resident doctor soon.
It had been months she has started her new residency, and she was grateful that not much had changed. Not because she was resistant to changes, but because she was scared of loosing the few people she truly held close to her heart.
Jhanvi was in the same institution, now pursuing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Despite the different streams, they had continued holding their friendship strong.
They met everyday during the lunch break and shared food together.
Not much had changed, but some things had been added too.
Jhanvi was dating Aashutosh, an Orthopaedics Resident Doctor. They would be engaged soon, in a month.
And there was no better way to celebrate the end of their bachelor life than without a party. So they had planned an engagement announcement party with all their colleagues next week.
Kalyani winded up her work and left for their regular meet up at a coffee shop nearby.
Aashutosh and Jhanvi were already there.
"Hey, what's brewing?" Aashutosh asked her, as she came and sat in the chair opposite to them.
"At the moment, only coffee." She replied, as she placed her regular order of cold coffee.
Her humour was as dry as her dating life.
She was really not looking for anyone, neither was she interested in dating.
Aashutosh was a jovial guy, always going out of his way to go out and help others. He had an old school charm about him, and his extroverted personality matched so well with Jhanvi.
They're both so talkative. I wonder who shuts up and listens when they both get together.
Kalyani was badly bored with her routine life.
"I say, let's have a trip somewhere! We've never even been on those college excursions." Jhanvi clapped her hands at her suggestion.
She knew Kalyani needed a change. Rather, a safe and good change.
"Okay, but where?" Kalyani asked, stirring the straw in her cold coffee cup.
"Obviously a hill station where it's freezing rather than this drought worthy summers!" Jhanvi had her priorities sorted.
"I know the exact place where we can get peace and enjoyment. Ranikhet!" Aashutosh suggested, as he took a bite of his burger.
"Careful, don't choke on your food, Aashu!" Jhanvi hit him on his arm.
They had their summer vacations from the next day, and it called for a perfect weekend getaway.
Ranikhet it was.

"There's so much to do, once we return. I'm so excited for this month. The announcement party, the engagement, and more!"
Jhanvi was seated in the backseat of the sedan. Kalyani was on her right. And Aashutosh was sitting in the front along with the driver. They were headed towards their vacation destination, Ranikhet.
It was a long way from Banaras. They had boarded the train upto Moradabad, and were now headed towards their resort in a cab.
"Kalyani, you've to join in everything. I won't hear a no. You've always been there in every phase with me, I need you in this too." Jhanvi held her hand, squeezing it tightly in between her palms.
"Ofcourse, Jhanvi. How can I deny it? Don't worry, I will be there." Kalyani smiled and reassured her.
"Aashu? How far are we from our resort?" Jhanvi called out to him.
"Aashu?" She repeated herself, reaching for his earphones and taking them off.
He had dozed off in the front seat, wearing his earphones to ignore the external world.

"Too beautiful!"
As they got down from the cab, the view was breathtaking.
They paid the driver and quickly settled down in their resort.
Situated amidst the lofty hills of Uttarakhand, it was a splendorous hill station. It was famously known as a popular spot for film shoots.
They spent the entire day amidst the hills, clicking pictures and enjoying the views.
They covered all the beautiful landmarks and temples atop.
At the end of the day, they retired to their rooms.
"We still have two more days left in our vacation. Shall we cover some other nearby hill station? What say, Jhanvi and Kalyani?" Aashutosh suggested.
"Yeah, let's use our vacation to the fullest of our potential. We don't always get leaves. And recreation is always refreshing and necessary." Jhanvi was already excited.
"Okay, I am in", Kalyani confirmed and went back to her room.
As the Sun rose the next day, they packed their bags further and got ready for their next destination.
