Chapter Twenty Seven : Brewing Closer

He was lying on the bed, his head buried in the pillow.

She quietly went inside, as the door was left unlatched. It was unusual, because he would usually latch it from inside.

Without making any noise, she gently sat on the edge of the bed. Placing her hand on his shoulder, she whispered, “Rudra?”

He immediately lifted his head, recognising her voice.

“I am sorry, I have often misunderstood you. But I would like to apologise and rectify my mistakes. I am willing to try my best to strengthen our bond.” She smiled weakly at him, her heart beating fast in anticipation.

“Kalyani?” He looked at her, and his pupils suddenly dilated. He was leaning on his bed, and had almost fallen asleep, with a book in his hand.

“I know all of this happened without your acceptance. And I now understand that love is all about patience, peace and stability. Settling down in life doesn't mean getting married. But a relationship which adds to personal growth and emotional intimacy actually does matter.”

Too heavy and deep words from this idiot! Maybe he is reading one of those romantic novels again.

“Love is like a tree which bears fruits when it's watered daily with care and lots of patience, peace and forgiveness.” He read out the line from the book he was holding in his hand.

Kalyani snatched the book from his hand to look at the title on the cover. “Very well”, she sighed.

But to her surprise, it was not a book. It was his diary, and he was reading out one of his musings.

“It's bad manners to look into someone's personal stuff.” He took the book back from her hands. Leaning in on his arms, he looked at her, smiling and flashing his dimples. 

“Hope you didn't read too much, Miss Rathore.” He giggled and looked away.

“You won't be able to conceal these things for too long, Mister Chauhan.” She retorted and got up from the bed. “I will meet you downstairs for lunch.”

Rudra looked up at the wall clock. It was about to be lunch time soon.

“Rudra”, the middle aged man sitting at the centre of the dining table called out.

“I have been thinking about this for a while,”, he said, clearing his throat, “and I would like to see you and Kalyani get along well together. Maybe you should take a trip somewhere.”

Rudra looked at his father at once. 

“Where, Papa?” He asked him.

“Braj? The holy city of…”
