She finally reached her destination and caught up some breath.

The police station.

The DGP was already waiting there for her.

She was wearing a petticoat and a shirt covering her blouse, still having the wedding makeup on her face.

He rushed to receive her and made her sit in the private chambers inside. “Do you need a shawl? It's chilling outside.”

Ofcourse winters were here and it was officially Malaiya season in Banaras. She nodded a no.

“It's okay, you did a brilliant job, I'm proud of you”. She was bleeding from her wrists still, with the cloth soaked in blood. Her feet were blistered from running bare feet.

He noticed her wounds. “You need first aid and some rest.” He sent for the doctor who came in within a few minutes; already all arrangements and emergency services were kept ready for her.

She was taken in for some quick health checkups.

As soon as she returned, the DGP informed her.

“You'll be allotted a new residency for a few days in a place away from here. You need to keep away as long as the investigation is completed.”

She agreed and got up to leave. A car was parked outside for her. She took the cab towards the unsaid destination. She didn't say anything at all, or even question him.

It was a four hour ride to a faraway place.

This secluded place was going to be her home for a while now.

“I'm afraid that this father-son duo might rot in jail.”

Avantika Chauhan had not wasted a single moment to summon her best and most trusted lawyers; already predicting and preparing for this day.

“Don't worry ma'am, we will try our best to get bail.” The lawyer assured her.

Infact, there was not just one, but an entire panel of lawyers assembled at her house. The wedding decoration, although minimal due to the time frame, were already taken away with Rudra being taken to the police station for enquiry.

Kalyani's mother sat with her, to give her company and plan further ahead. No one brought up the topic of Kalyani or asked about her whereabouts.

They didn't need to know; for they feared that even bringing her name up would mean endangering her again.

On the other hand, Rudra had already been sitting in the police station for an hour now. He was being grilled with vigorous questions, some of which he answered truthfully. And the rest, he himself was unsure of.
