“That's alright, you can address me as Maina.”

She smiled humbly, accepting the token of gift and love, meant for Kalyani, sent by her in-laws.

“Maina is my nickname, I used it often before marriage. But after marrying Mr. Rathore, I was addressed as Bhoomi Rathore more usually.”

Kalyani was back in Rudra's home now. She watched everything from a distance, sitting in the balcony accompanying this living room.

It was all so hastened that she didn't even get time to think. But even amidst it all, she sometimes wondered if she was doing the right thing.

She didn't want to hurt Rudra. But in order to complete her mission, she would have to sacrifice him, their love, and ultimately, herself too, if needed.

Yes, she loved him. But she craved justice more than that. Who knows how many lives this monster must have ruined over time. So many must have kept quiet about his atrocities or made to keep shut.

After she realised that even the party sponsors were scoundrels, she started to lose her trust. Especially when Rudra turned her down.

And she had no guarantee that it won't happen after marriage. Even though he apologized and tried to make amends, it won't solve the crux of the problem.

She regretted hurting him and keeping him in the dark to her ultimate aim. He was in oblivion what was about to happen in the coming days.

“What happened, Kalyani?” Rudra came up to her that very moment, as if reading her thoughts.

“Why are you sitting so secluded? Are you not happy?” He sat down next to her on the balcony swing.

“Nothing”, she smiled weakly, addressing him. “I was just thinking how I managed to get married into a mafia family who causally kill people and then cover up murders as if it was sheer mockery.”

His heart skipped a beat as he heard her say those words. His adrenaline shot up and a vein on his forehead became prominent. He immediately wanted to defend his family and say something, but he minced back his words. Trying to keep calm, he took in deep breaths.

He is a much more calmer and changed person now, I feel. So much changed that I don't even recognise him.

“Kalyani, I know I've said it a thousand times”, he looked at her intensely. “But I will say this again.” The sunlight behind him was peeking in through the blinds and illuminated his hazel eyes, making them shine bright like the flames of fire.

Intense, passionate, fire. Like the flames of love.

"I'd even defeat death to bring you back. I can't let anyone else take you away from me. I would build bridges to come to you and fight anything that comes in between us."

Kalyani looked at him, a little taken aback by the sheer expression of emotions, in front of their mothers, who looked on intently, sensing their tense conversation.

“When do we begin the festivities?” Rudra's mother asked to break the ice.

Rudra looked away from Kalyani to answer his mother.

“As soon as possible.”
