“You didn't invite me to your engagement.”

He spoke coldly to break the ice.

Her skin erupted in goosebumps just at the mention. His voice sent shivers down her spine.

When once she found her comfort and home in home, now she was scared and feared him. And she herself didn't know why.

Maybe a part of her was in denial and guilt of what she had done. She knew this day would come when she would have to face his wrath.

And she didn't know which way he would break her; mentally, emotionally or physically.

She had to face his anger. In all ways.

“You thought I wouldn't know that you're engaged to Avinash. Again.”

She clenched the end of her kurti in nervousness. It crumpled up like fine tissue paper, soaked in her sweat.

She wanted to yell at the top of her lungs and cry out loudly. But she didn't have the courage to face him or show her vulnerability to him.

Not again.

She bit her lip and sniffed back her tears. But they were too big to ignore. They evaded her eyes and fell down her cheeks.

Rudra was not unaware of her state. He noticed her, making her more conscious.

As her teardrops rolled down her cheek, he moved his arm, placing his palm beneath her face to collect those tears.

Even her tears are as precious as pearls.

“So very touching”, he said huskily and grinned.

His smirk reminded her of his late father, and brought back memories of that tragic wedding day when he had locked her in the basement, left in the fire to die.

That moment was the changing climax of their story. Everything henceforth was totally drifted.

And they had drifted apart.

“We had planned to get hitched next month.”

She finally revealed, trying to calm down and act normal.

They were at Rudra's new home, the official residency of the ministry. She took a bath and freshened up, sipping in some hot tea.

“My mother convinced his family and fixed our marriage. She seeked forgiveness for my own sake.” She said, describing how they had patched up.

“So very touching.” He said, scrolling through his phone. She kept quiet, taking in his mockery.

“Don't you want to know what he is doing now? In your absence, is he even missing you? He should have been here in your troubled times.”

He showed her a photograph on his face. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
