She woke up early and prayed to the Sun God to express her gratitude.

It was the day of the hearing.

“Kalyani”, Rudra's mother called out to her. “I have some good news.”

She came to her room, with her phone in her hand.

“What happened, aunty?” Kalyani smiled and greeted her warmly.

“There are high chances that the court proceedings will be in your favour. I just consulted our family astrologer and he predicted this good news.”

Kalyani giggled at her innocence. “Oh, aunty, of course I am innocent. Truth prevails and is always victorious over evil.”

Spring had already set in Banaras. The warm morning sun shone over the glass windowsill, peeking in through the blinds. It was a refreshing sign of positivity.

“I'll head to the court”, she picked up her bag and important documents and headed out.

She took her blessings and hugged her tightly before leaving.

But she had still not met or spoken to Rudra since the day he left her here. He was too busy with his work, and she didn't get the courage to dial him up and apologize.

As she sat in the car, she wondered if she should take the leap of faith. Was it worth risking her self respect?

Shall I contact him? What if he doesn't pick up my call?

She called his number. She hadn't dialled it before because of her own fear of rejection.

“Hello?” To her surprise, the call was answered.

“Hello? May I know who is calling?”

She felt dejected when she realised that he hadn't saved her number. He didn't recognise her.

She wanted to say something but she couldn't. Her voice choked and she was almost on the verge of tearing up.

She hung up the call.

She couldn't do it again.

“Thank you, aunty.”

She bent to touch her feet, expressing her gratitude.

“You treated me like your own daughter and were the only one by my side during these tough times, like my own mother. How do I thank you for this?”

She hugged Kalyani and brought her to the temple room of the mansion. “Oh, you don't need to thank me. Thank the Lord. He's the most benevolent and kind.”

“Yes, aunty, you're right. He's the only guardian I have after my parents died. But still, I owe you alot and how do I pay for your kindness?”

Kalyani's mother smiled and softly embraced her cheek.
