The policeman clenched onto the parcel as if he was holding onto dear life.

The guard at the gate had pressed the first button on the telephone and called the office headquarters, stating that there was a parcel for them.

Assuming it to be of some legal evidence or importance, the old, frail man hurried to fetch the parcel. He used his last bit of energy and panted for every breath, to reach as fast as he could, before anyone else got their eyes on the parcel.

It was his last attempt at receiving a bonus incentive before his retirement sank in.

"Oh! My grandchildren will be so happy when I buy them gifts from this money." He sighed on his way back to the office.

It was the birthday of their DSP. And everyone was gathered for the party which was scheduled at the banquet hall adjacent to the police station.

As the twilight hours began to appear, evening was here and so was the time for the gathering. Everyone posted in the station was invited, along with their family members.

"Deputy Superintendent of Police. I hope sir rewards me handsomely for this find." The man placed the parcel on the table, took out his bag and placed it inside.

He was ready to retire for the day; if not from his duties.

"Rakesh ji! What was the need for this?"

Although he was higher in post than the inspector, he would always address him with respect in the traditional way, keeping in mind his age and seniority in experience.

That was the humility and grace of DSP Raghunandan Rathore. As much as his name, he was equally famous and revered for his work ethics.

He was as honest as Lord Rama, the One on whom he was named. He was born on Rama Navami, a national holiday. He was brought up in protected upbringing, which motivated him to join the Indian Police Services and serve the nation.

Rakesh Kumar quickly handed him the parcel, and informed him about how he discovered such a prized possession sole handedly in the vicinity of the police station, when he was the only officer on duty and the entire station was deserted. Because everyone had left early for the party. But he was the wise and obedient one, so he kept working till the last minute.

"Oh sir! I thought it might be a birthday gift from an admirer for you. Ofcourse you have many fans who appreciate your sincerity and honesty." He joked, trying his best to get in the good looks of his senior officers. The last line seemed more like a sarcastic curse. For what was to follow the events of the day, would definitely be beyond anyone's wildest imagination.

"That is all okay and fine, Raghu! But where is your dear friend? I know he is a VIP but will he keep us all waiting for so long even on your special day?" The Superintendent of Police asked him, tapping his feet impatiently.
