Deja Vu

Alfred and I were led into another car, our hands tied, he is badly injured as well but whoever this is must have told his men not to touch me because, I'm being abducted but treated so nicely.

The drive was getting rather long when the car suddenly stopped. There was a building that looked like an abandoned highschool faced with a thick forest.

As the night fell, my heart raced with fear. I found myself in a nightmare. The room I was locked in was suffocating, the darkness swallowing me whole.

It was morning, very early in the morning. The clouds were still dark. I don't know how but Alfred was eating a sandwich and had gotten out of his handcuffs. He explained that he had stumbled upon a hidden passage but wanted me to be awake before we left.

“ What?! Are you crazy? You should have woken me up.”

“ You seemed very tired,” he said.

“ Looks like you have been kidnapped a lot of times,”

“I mean, I work for one of the most dangerous Mafias.” He shrugged.

I knew it, Joseph is a Mafia.

He unlocked my handcuffs, his knuckles were bruised like he had to break a jaw to get that key.

The hidden passage was concealed behind a dusty bookshelf, a secret escape route waiting to be discovered.

With trembling hands, I pushed open the passage and we walked through, leading us outside. As we opened the large iron gates we heard footsteps from afar. Suddenly Alfred grabbed my arm and we ran across the street into a moonlit forest.

Then we heard a gunshot, a man kept shouting for us to stop, chasing us into the forest. We paused after running for such a long time, we were both breathing heavily. The sound of the rustling leaves under the man's footsteps alerted us that he was coming close.

Alfred pulled me behind a large tree and we hid, our body had no distance between it. He placed his hands over my mouth and allowed the man to walk past the tree then he struck, hitting him on the head with a stick and taking his gun.

We began running again, every step we took further into the forest got me more worried of how we are going to get out of here.

“ I think we should stop,” I paused, panting heavily.

“ No one is going to find us going to find us if we keep running and we won't be able to find our way back”

“ I have a tracker in my suit,” Joseph or Andrew will get to us soon.

“ Is this how you guys live? Watching your backs, having several houses in different places in the world, crashing and wrecking several cars, traveling is the order of the day, killing, abducting, and not able to live normal lives, how would you have kids this way?” I huffed, landing on the floor extremely tired.

We chose to rest where we were and I slept, resting my head on Alfred’s shoulders. The loud sound of a helicopter woke me up from my sleep.

“Joseph is here,” Alfred whispered into my ears and I stood.

Joseph looked freshly washed in sweat pants and a white shirt. The excitement in my eyes was replaced with numbness the moment I noticed Ama standing next to the helicopter.

I held Alfred as tight as I could as we got into the helicopter, soon we were far above the forest and landed a few feets away taking a car to where I guess should be home.

As we approached a building, it didn't look like Joseph's house and I was so sure about that.

“ Where are we?” I whispered to Alfred.

“ Home,” he replied briefly as we walked into the house.

It was a beautiful view surrounded by grasslands and very high trees. As soon as I walked into the house, the first thing I noticed was the lake behind the house. I could see it through the long windows. The wall at that shade was completely see through.

“ Go straight, pick one of the rooms. I'd pick the other,” Alfred whispered into my ear.

“ Ok,” I huffed tiredly, walking towards the direction.

“ Hey,” a female voice yelled, of course it's Amazing she's the only other woman in this house.

I turned around to look at her, my arms crossed under my breast.

“ I packed a few things that you can wear from your closet,” she said, tossing a duffel bag that hit me and fell to the ground.

I folded my fist and held it so tightly my nails were drilling holes into my skin. I said nothing and turned around, not picking up the duffel bag.

“ Hey,” Alfred walked into my room.

“ Sorry about her,”

“ It's fine,” I assured.

It was the middle of the night, I could sleep because I was super hungry. I microwaved the leftover steak from earlier and ate at the dinning in the dark.

Soon Joseph walked into the living room, staring out the see through wall. I continued eating in silence trying not to call his attention to me when Ama joined him.

“ Why did you leave the bed,” Ama asked, stretching her body towards him.

He caught her stretch, wrapping his strong arms around her body.

“I have a lot on my mind,” he answered.

“ Zola? “ I almost choked on my steak at the mention of my name.

“ She fucked Alfred, so? Let it go Joseph”

I gasped upon hearing that. Did he find out?

They turned on the lights and looked in my direction. I immediately picked up my plates and ran towards the kitchen, putting away my plate and finding my way to my room.

I held my head as it began to spin.

“Zola, Zola are you okay?” I heard Alfred’s voice from a distance.

I motioned for him to come as I staggered towards my room door. This has happened before, when? Suddenly everything went blank.
