And ever since their meeting, Y/n, Kenma and Kuroo remained the greatest of friends, always having each others backs and making one another laugh if one of them was sad.
Y/n would always be eternally grateful towards the two boys, they brought a stability in her life and a comfort no one else could replicate or replace. Being with them was like a warm home.
But obviously, things couldn't stay the same as once Sae left, the rhythm of life of the young girl had been shaken so vigorously, it seemed that a part of her was taken when Sae abandoned her and Rin on the football pitch, the snow burying the anguish and blood.
From there on, her path had been secured, her heart was torn by the injustice, drove for justice, as she'd want nothing more than to prove him wrong. She was filled with so much resentment that she became blinded in her actions.
And that led to her pushing everyone away.
Kuroo and Kenma noticed the wall Y/n was putting between them, the way her once sparkling eyes diminished into a sullen misery as she trudged her way around their home with much of a burden.
It was as if she was either trying to protect herself from harms way, as in life, those who you consider closest can betray you suddenly, and hit you were it hurts.
The gap grew and grew, till one day the younger girl had unexpectedly called out her childhood friends, a bundle of uncertainty and confusion compressing up in their stomachs.
"So... I should begin with that... I-I'm sorry." A younger version of Y/n stood in front of them, as the three of them stood in the place where they all met.
Second year at the time, Kuroo's eyebrows laced with concern and slight disarray. "It's alright, we're just concerned about you... we haven't had a proper conversation in months."
Hearing the scale of time, her teal eye's slightly widened, her hands shaking with nerves as her tongue trembled with every word. "T-then I'm sorry even further... you guys didn't deserve that..."
Kenma stayed quiet as he observed her, slightly disturbed by her lack of personality. He noticed the way her mouth tried to form words, and her eye-brows frowned with every desperate sentence she tried to create.
As the girl looked around hopelessly, an aching feeling erupted in her chest while her hands burned with embarrassment and a slight ring was tingling in her ears.
Her eyes brimmed into small glimmers of diamonds as she looked down at her feet. 'I'm the worst... my god no wonder he left...' self hatred begun to dig deep within her as her breathing became shallower.
Shakingly, she brought her hands up to her face, trying to shield herself from her friends seeing her pitiful state. The pile of anxiety grew larger as sniffled was the only things that could be vocalised.
Kenma and Kuroo looked at the girl alarmed, the younger of the two immediately rushing over to his friend, ignoring the older boy who looked at him surprised.
Kenma, despite being shorter, wrangled his way through the girl's arms and brought them down to her side, letting her face be exposed.
All puffy and flushed, Y/n's face was scrunched up painfully as the rhythmic beats of her heart sprung violently out of her chest, as her eyes closed tightly with tears streaming down her face.
Kenma looked wide-eyed, his hands delicately; yet firmly, keeping her arms down, slightly turning his head back and saw Kuroo approaching them carefully.
As the sounds of the river rushed by, so were the whispers of the incoherent words from Y/n's mouth.
"I'm so selfish.., so so selfish..." Self hatred spewed from her tongue, her expression resembling someone she thought she knew, but he was currently on a plane back to Spain.
