I watched as Ahehp's blood went flowing out of her. I was very grateful the sight of blood didn't make me queasy.

"How exactly are you going to prove that your blood is the real deal?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. Do you have any ideas?"

I thought for a moment. To be honest, I had nothing. But then I remembered something that I had read a while ago, as I was coming up with this story actually.

"What if you like use it to um heal a creature of some kind?"

"Yeah, that could work. Except I don't really know if my blood can do that."

"Well here," then I did something very stupid. I took a piece of metal and put it over a small fire. Once it was red with heat, I used the tongs to place it on my forearm.

It was hot. Really hot. I could feel the heat, but strangely I didn't scream from the pain. I knew it was burning me. Then I felt it. The pain was a delayed reaction. I still stopped myself from screaming. I didn't need to. I dropped the tongs and piece of metal. All this time I had been so focused on myself that I forgot about Ahehp.

I'm the narrator. I have to focus on everyone else. This is their story, not mine. Great going Korei, I thought.

"Are you okay?" Ahehp asked. She was worried.

"Yeah I'm alright."

"That piece of metal was easily 900 degrees faurequnveilt. How did you not scream from the pain?"

I just shrugged. I know what pain is like. At some point I just stopped feeling it. It isn't necessary to feel. If you can stop feeling pain you are more likely to get the tough jobs done.

Ahehp's eyes told the story of how terrified she was, though the rest of her face would never tell the dark tale.

"Okay, are you ready to see if this will work?" she asked, her voice a touch too shaky.

I nodded. I didn't trust my voice to speak and not tell my story of hurt. Of pain. Of conditioned torture.

She took a single drop of her blood and placed it on the small burnt part of my skin. The blood seeped over my burn.

It was cool to the touch. My once hot skin was now cooling down. I was cooling down.

Within a few seconds, the burn was completely gone.

"Well we know it works on burns," I said.

"Should we test it on a cut or something?"

"You can be the one to make a cut on your skin if we do that," I said. I don't like pain.

Ahehp obliged. She made a small laceration on her skin. The silver liquid seeped out and healed itself.

"Well that answers itself," I remarked.

"Should we try like a broken bone or something?" she asked. I could tell she was scared. She was trying to plan for every outcome.

You can't plan for every outcome.

"I think we are fine. We know it heals at least two types of injuries. We should be fine. Everything has its limits."

She nodded and turned her face away from me.

I know what it's like to be emotional. To have all of your emotions bubble up and rebel against you when something bad happens.

I gave her a hug.

"Us girls gotta stick together," I whispered.

She made a small nod and I pulled away to smile at her.

She made a weak smile back.

"Come on, we better get going."
