Kate
It felt so strange, having girls near my own age around me. Doing my hair, helping with my make-up. The only other experience I had like this was at the bar when the girls would get ready around the back but it wasn't all laughing and smiles like here.
Stella, one of the women who worked at the bar. She was actually nice to me but the rest either didn't know who I was or hated me.
This is what is must feel like to have friends, getting ready before hitting the town. They were all so kind and lovely that it actually hurt to be a part of knowing it wouldn't last.
"God I love hotels" Lilly groaned, putting another strawberry in her mouth, as she laid across the bed laughing. We were all in our white bath robes, drinking Champaign and eating the chocolate strawberries. They really were to die for.
"You've got such lovely hair, how do you want it?" Gemma asked me.
"I don't really mind, whatever you think" I said taking another sip of the Champaign. I could get used to drinking this stuff. I loved how it made you feel warm and happy inside. Wow, how the other half life, I thought.
"I think you should keep it down Kate" Leah said as she was applying her make-up.
"It does have a lovely bounce to it. I think Leah right. I'll just give your ends a little curl" Gemma said as she got to work on my hair just when a knock came to the door. Lilly jumped off the bed to answer the door.
"Oh Gem! Karl must have sent your dress over" Lilly called from the door way. "Can I have a look?" she asked not really waiting for a reply before pulling the zip down. As she pulled the dress away from the cover and her jaw dropped.
"Oh my God" Lilly went pale nearly falling to the grand it she didn't grab the chair dramatically. Making us all laugh. "Gem, its Vera Wang" she cried.
Everyone is up on their feet to see the dress.
"Don't crowd it! Art like this should be preserved on a pedestal" she said. The next thing we know we're all sitting on the bed with our Champaign staring at the beautiful red dress in front of us, hanging on the top of the wardrobe.
"It's so beautiful" Gemma said as we all sighed.
"Right now you have to put it on" Lilly jumped up from the bed with excitement. "I did a shoot for Vera Wang last year it was true the best moment of my life. I can't believe he sent you this... what's he in trouble for?"
"That boy's always in trouble but I honestly have no idea why he sent it" Gemma's laughed but I could see the tears welling up in her eyes.
"It's because he loves you" we all sighed.
Once we were all ready to go, we left Lilly's room and walked to the main staircase. It was like we were in some kind of fairytale.
All the guys were waiting at the bottom of the chairs for us. Jay smiled proudly at me, in my green dress.
With a quick kiss on the cheek we made our way through the party. Jay introduced us as boyfriend and girlfriend to all these people that I started to wonder how this was going to work after. Would he just tell people that it didn't work out or would he keep up the lie and just say I couldn't attend?
Did they even really care?
As we made our way around the room, I wasn't feeling really nervous anymore. It was all becoming second nature to go along with anything Jay told them. I would just smiled and laughed at the right moments, like a good fifties wife.
The night went on and on with people drinking and dancing around the ballroom. The other room was set up with gaming tables like a real casino. Well, I can only imagined as I've never been in one.
