Kate
Every raindrop felt like all the disappointments, all the tears I had cried in my life coming hard on my shoulders, soaking me through. I started thinking that soon the rain would wash me away and I'd just drown in the river of darkness my life seemed to attach its self with. Could things get any darker, could they get any heavier than they would right now?
I was standing at the bus stop waiting for the last bus to come and take me home where I belonged. How could I allow myself to think for just a moment that I could rise to anything better than what I'd been handed so far in my life? Maybe I just wasn't grateful enough for what I already had. From now on my expectations shall forever remain low because as soon as you start expecting things to look better and your life starts to look bright, God just comes over and puts a great ass cloud over your sunshine.
Here I was, penniless again, most likely jobless and loveless. Not to add I was soaked through in the cold rain in the pitch darkness with only the passing cars headlights for light. I saw a car pass me by and start reversing back. Great now I was going to be murdered and turned to roadkill.
"Oh God! Kate?" I stood shocked as Leah stopped next to me. "Get in!" she yelled. I put my bag in her boot before jumping in her car. I couldn't believe it. I actually had a bit of luck.
"What the hell? What are you doing out there?" she said pulling me into a tight hug. I was so glad to see her I started crying.
"It's a long story. What are you doing out here?" I asked, laughing at how lucky I was. I was shocked.
"It's a long story" she repeated. "Where are you going?" she asked adjusting the heat for me to get warm before starting to drive again.
"Back to London. You?" I asked.
"Same but I'm making a stop at my Nan and Granddads. You want to come?" she asked which I agreed happily too.
Why was she driving home in the middle of her Granddad's party? Something was wrong. I noticed the redness in her eyes. I was about to ask what was wrong when she asked me first.
"Ok, so you first tell me what happened?"
"They know. Jakes parents, they know everything, Jay being gay, me being paid to be his girlfriend, me and Jake" I started telling her everything. There was just something about Leah that made it so easy to talk to. I knew that she wouldn't judge me or think ill of me; it just wasn't in her nature.
"His mother hates me," I said looking out of the window.
"I bet that's not true" she looked like I was being dramatic.
"She called me a 'money-grabbing whore' and some other stuff about whoring my way into her family," I said as I could tell she understood now why I knew she hated me.
"Ah... ok"
"Told you. Wait it gets better, the whole family was there when everyone found out and Jake didn't like the way that his Mum was talking about me so he said something's, which then lead to them finding out about me and Jake. Jay went mental, Lilly had a few things to say, then his Mum went off about how I wasn't good enough for her sons and everything was my fault" I felt the ball in my throat shake as I talked and the tears started to build.
"Oh, Kate" she held my hand comforting me.
"Jake kept defending me and telling them all that we were going to be together but his Mum said she'll never talk to him again"
"And what did he say?" she asked.
"He just kept shouting at her telling her, he wasn't letting me go. I didn't listen to the rest, I just left" the tears escaped my eyes now and were running down my cheeks.
