"Jay! Jay over here!" people from every angle were shouting his name, flashing their cameras, waving their hands to get his attention.
"Only a few shots" I remembered him saying before I got ready for tonight. We're only going to dinner why were there so many people here.
"Over here Minster!" they shouted. Everyone was shouting, everything was going so fast I thought I was going to pass out with all the bright lights. The heat from the crowd and the number of people staring at me. Likely wondering why I was here with Jay... I was thinking the same thing. I didn't realise what I was getting myself into. Jay seems to mix with higher crowds than I could even imagine.
"There may be more people here than I first thought," he said putting his hand on my lower back pushing me through the crowd towards the restaurant, where two larger bouncers stood guarding the door. Jay just gave them a nod before they guided us through, I didn't know what was happening, still seeing little white dots from the cameras everywhere it took a while for my eyes to adjust to all the beauty around me.
It was very modern with blacked-out windows, glass tables and chairs, everything was dark with purple lighting shadowing all around the room. Everything looked very rich, the tables, the chairs, the fabric walls, the floor, the food, the multi-coloured drinks and of course the people.
It was large, full of people sitting on sofas drinking cocktails, people near the bar laughing around and others eating on the glass tables. I didn't know if I was meant to dance or have dinner, the place didn't look like a normal restaurant but more like a bar or nightclub.
Jay and I were guarded to the back away from the other tables. As we walked through people were saying 'hi' to Jay as he walked by. Either he came here a lot or he was just really popular around London and seeing from the cameras outside I'd go with the later.
"Would you like anything to drink?" the waiter asked. I couldn't remember when I just went somewhere with a waiter. Even for my Birthday last year, Millie and I went to Nando's. Not the same.
"Whiskey," Jay said taking out his phone. I was tempted to try something alcoholic but didn't think it best drinking for the first time in a place like this with Jay. With all the cameras outside and the people all around us watching our every move, getting drunk at a business meeting wasn't the best ideas.
"I'll just have a coke, please," I said. "Where all them cameras out there for just you?" I asked as the waiter walked away.
"No, they're always here, waiting for a story. I come here from meetings a lot with big named clients" he said tapping on his phone again, he always looked like he was in one place but busy somewhere else when he was on that thing. I never had a phone growing up so I don't get what all the hype is about. I got one now but it's only a little small thing that I use if work or Millie needs me. I never use it for anything else.
"I can't imagine having a meeting in a place like this, it's like a nightclub" I didn't think he heard me as he typed away. He didn't reply.
I find myself feeling very shy around Jay, he's such an intimidating guy, in the way he walks and the way he speaks with such authority. All I knew about him right now was he was a high-class lawyer but I could tell from the way people greeted him tonight and how busy he is on his phone all the time, he had more power than just any other lawyer.
"That is sometimes the only way to meet with people" he replied finally dropping his phone face down so he can't see it ring again. Just then the waiter was back with our drinks and collected are food orders. It was all so quick Jay already knew what he was having and I only really got a glance, they didn't have prices next to anything, how was I meant to pick. The waiter looked at me trying not to get annoyed at me but I could tell he was from the way his lips pressed hard together, so I picked the first thing on the menu.
