Jake - one month later
Beep! Beep!
Beep! Beep!
I finally answered the door after letting it ring for a few minutes but whoever the bastard was, wasn't going anywhere. I opened the door to see Chris standing on the other side.
"Wow, you look great" he smirked shutting the door behind him. "Are you hungover?" I saw him looking around at the empty bottles that were scattered around the room. In the past few weeks, I've only left the place to get more drink.
"Nope" I picked up the bottle of Jack.
"Well you smell like you are" he moved around the kitchen looking displeased at the mess.
"You have to have stopped drinking to be hangover"
"And you haven't stopped, is that what you're saying?" he asked.
"Yep"
"So you're drunk"
"Well, I guess I am. You're a right Sherlock Chris you know that" I knew I was being rude but my head was spinning and I had a really bad feeling I was about to be sick. A pissed off Chris walked over to the window and opened the curtains letting in all the light. I can't remember the last time I was up the same time the sun was.
"Jake you've got to stop doing this to yourself" Chris pulled the bottle out of my hands. "It's been a month and you've got a game next week to train for. When was the last time you even got up and did... well anything?" I knew I looked a mess with the beard and dirty clothes... as well as the place looks like one of Prince Harry's parties. Trust me I've been to one!
Yet I just didn't give a crap.
"Not true! I went to get another bottle at the shop last night thank you very much"
"You had a whole bottle of whiskey to yourself?" Chris laughed. I remembered a time where he'd drink any guy under the table but now he was all loved up and his wild party days were over. Well, more fall him, I thought.
"No... I have a bottle of brandy as well" I smirked.
"Come on. Get up, we're going out" he threw a shirt that was on the floor at me. He was lucky he was a good friend or I would have punched him in the face by now.
"Piss off Chris, I'm not going anywhere" I laid down on the sofa dramatically... God that's something Lilly would do I thought.
"Well I'm hungry and you have no food. Let's go get a sarnie" a cold shower and aspirin later, we were both walking through the park eating and chatting like bloody women.
"This is not like you Jake, you've never let a girl get to you like this before," he said taking a bit of the full English breakfast in a roll. The breakfast of real men this was.
"Yeah well none of them have ripped my heart out before either" I was pretty sure I was still drunk, to admit that Kate had ripped my heart out to Chris like that.
We had always been honest with each other, ever since we first met at kids. All the other guys were great but Chris always gave the right advice. He was the sensible one in the group, the guy that everyone could rely on and be yourself around.
This was why I was a dick to him now and then but he didn't care, true friend right there. Conor would most likely punch me in the face and buy me a beer straight after and Karl... he just was shit at advice. Whatever he said we all knew to do the opposite.
"The even better reason to go out there and get back into it," Chris said. I take back what I just said. He didn't get it!
I don't ever what to be that involved in a woman ever again. She got right under me, to the point I dropped my family for her only to learn that it was all for nothing.
