Desert

I groaned as I sat up, holding my head as it pounded behind my eyes. "[What happened? Where am I?]" I wondered as I looked around, seeing nothing but vast desert sand in every direction.

Suddenly I started hearing things, things that I shouldn't have been able to hear. A car backfiring, waves crashing on the shore, people talking and walking. I gripped my head as the sounds grew louder and louder, until I couldn't even hear myself think. Then, as if I had done it a hundred times, I grabbed onto just one sound, a heartbeat that while not mine was certainly close, and let the others fade out into background noise. "[Whelp that hurt. But that begs the question: how did I do that?]"

"Hello."

"Gah! Geez!" I shot straight into the cool night air, caught completely off guard by the sudden voice, though now that I was focusing on it, the heartbeat I'd been listening to belongs to this person. As I floated back down I realized exactly who had just startled me. "Wait. You're Robin," I said with a smile, only for it to drop as I realized I was talking to the Robin. "Oh Rao you're Robin!"

"That's my name, try not to wear it out. And I've been hanging around KF too much." I cocked my head confused. 'KF? Does he mean Kid Flash?'

I crossed my legs, sitting down and raised my hand like I was in a classroom. When he noticed Robin looked at me strangely. "What are you doing?"

"I have a question," I responded simply. It should be pretty obvious what I was doing.

"Yeah, no I got that, why are you doing that? We aren't at school. Come to think of it who are you?"

"I'm Al- Supergirl. Sorry. Still getting used to the whole secret identity thing."

"Ah. You related to Big Blue?"

"I'm adopted, but yeah. I'm kryptonian too. Also where are we?"

"For some reason we're in Bialya. I have a few tracer signals placed around the desert. Don't know why. You were the closest one. By the way, not that I don't like it but I thought you'd share Supe's color scheme," he said, pointing to my suit. Furrowing my eyebrows I looked down for the first time and saw my suit was all black with the only other color being the usual red of my 'S' shield being a dark silver.

"That's different." I reached up and traced the 'S'. When I got to the middle I accidentally pressed a little harder and my suit shifted back to normal. "Very different." I pressed it again and stood back up. "Where were those other signals?"

"Closest one is about two clicks north." At my confused expression he sighed and pointed, "a little over a mile that way."

"Oh." I nodded and flew behind him, wrapping my arms under his shoulders and around his torso to pick him up.

"What are you doing?"

"Wouldn't this be faster? I could carry you differently if you'd like."

"No. Well, yes this would be faster but we have to stay covert." I set him down and stared at him, once again confused. "Bialya is a rouge nation." I just blinked, not understanding. "It isn't a part of the League's UN Charter." I still don't understand, and I think I'm starting to annoy him. "Huh, officially we can't be here or there'll be major international problems."

"Oh," I nodded, finally getting at least some of what he was saying. "Krypton didn't have different nations so I'm still learning there are places on Earth I can't go." I looked out at the dunes we had to, if Robin had his way, cross on foot. "I can fly low you know. Fast too."

He gave me a deadpan look and shook his head firmly. "No flying. It'll kick up too much sand."

"Fine," I whined, rolling my eyes. Now I'm not normally this sassy with people I just met but something about him seems oddly familiar; like this isn't our first encounter.
