The late afternoon sun cast a dim glow over the school grounds as Mira hurried down the hallway, her heart pounding in her chest. Every step she took felt like a trap, the walls closing in around her as she made her way toward the exit. She could feel their eyes on her—always on her. The whispers, the giggles, the cold glares. It was all too much, and yet it never seemed to stop.
Her eyes burned with the weight of it all, but she forced herself to keep her head down, to walk faster, to get out. She had to get out.
But just as she reached the door, a sharp tug on her wrist sent her stumbling backward.
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Ethan's voice was like ice, low and menacing, as he yanked her back into the classroom.
Mira's heart skipped a beat. The familiar sting of fear coursed through her, tightening around her chest.
"Ethan..." Her voice trembled, and she barely recognized it as her own. "Please, I just want to leave."
Ethan laughed—low, cruel. He shoved her roughly against the wall, and Mira felt the cold, unrelenting pressure of his body pinning her there.
"You think you get to leave?" he spat, his breath hot against her ear, his fingers digging into her wrist as if to remind her who was in control. "You don't get to leave, Mira. Not now. Not ever."
Mira tried to pull away, but it was useless. His grip was like steel, unyielding.
"Hopeless," he sneered, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "You really think you can just walk away from me? Do you think anyone cares about you? You're nothing. You always were."
The words hit her like a slap to the face. Cold. Brutal. Without mercy.
She couldn't breathe. Couldn't think.
"You're f*cking hopeless," Ethan repeated, his voice growing colder with each word. "Look at you. I could crush you with a single word, and you'd just fall apart. You're a joke, Mira. You always have been."
The tears she'd been holding back finally began to spill, but she couldn't stop them. She couldn't stop the pain that was swelling in her chest, the shame that burned through her veins like acid.
But Ethan didn't stop there. He stepped back, only to slam his fist into the lockers beside her, making her jump.
"You don't get to walk away. You don't get to just pretend like none of this matters," he spat. "Because it does. Every damn day, you get to feel this. You get to feel the weight of your worthless existence. And I'll make sure of it."
He grabbed her chin suddenly, forcing her to look up at him, his eyes cold and dark.
"I don't give a damn if you cry, Mira. Cry all you want. It won't change a thing. You'll still be here. Still stuck. Still insignificant."
His fingers tightened on her jaw, and Mira felt the sharp, crushing force as if he were trying to rip her apart with just his hands.
"You think your life means anything?" He laughed bitterly, his voice mocking. "It doesn't. You're a joke. You were always a joke."
Mira tried to speak, tried to make him understand, but the words were stuck in her throat, lodged there by the suffocating grip of his hatred. Her vision blurred as the tears kept falling.
Then, just as suddenly as it had begun, Ethan released her. He shoved her to the ground, and she hit the floor hard, her knees scraping against the cold tile.
She could barely breathe as she looked up at him, sprawled out on the floor like a broken doll.
Ethan stood over her, towering, his expression unreadable but his eyes gleaming with something dark, something sinister.
"Sh*t, get up," he commanded, his voice still sharp. "Get up, you worthless piece of trash."
She tried to move, tried to rise, but her limbs felt heavy. She felt as though she were sinking into the ground, suffocating beneath the weight of his cruelty.
"Don't you f*cking dare to make me repeat myself." Ethan's voice was like ice, each word cutting through her like a blade.
Mira struggled to her feet, every movement slow and agonizing. She could feel the bruises already forming on her wrists where his fingers had dug into her skin. Her knees buckled, but she managed to stay upright.
Ethan didn't move, didn't look at her. He simply stood there, watching her struggle with that cold, calculating expression on his face.
"You're nothing but a weak little girl," he spat. "And you'll always be beneath me. Always."
She wanted to scream. She wanted to fight back. But her body betrayed her. She couldn't even hold her head up anymore, couldn't summon the strength to do anything but stand there, broken.
His eyes narrowed as if he could smell her fear. "Pitiful," he muttered, turning away from her. "I don't know why I bother."
And just like that, he was gone. Walking away, leaving her shattered on the floor, his words echoing in her head like a never-ending storm.
---
That night, Mira couldn't sleep. She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, the words Ethan had said running through her mind on a loop. She could still feel the sting of his touch, the suffocating weight of his presence.
It was like a sickness that had taken root inside her, and she wasn't sure how to get rid of it. She wanted to run away, to escape from everything. But where would she go? Who would want her?
Her phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with an unfamiliar number.
Without thinking, she answered. "Hello?"
There was a pause, and then a voice she recognized—Ethan's.
"You really think this is over?" he said, his voice low and steady. "You think you can just ignore me? You're mine, Mira. And I'll make sure you know that. I'll make sure you never forget who you belong to."
The line went dead, and Mira's heart skipped a beat.
She sank back into her pillow, her thoughts swirling in a dark haze.
There was no escape. Not now. Not ever.
